The zoom link for the first week will be emailed to you when register.  More detailed information and links for weeks 2 & 3 will be sent subsequently.) When you sign up we ask that you are available for all 3 sessions.   We only have 12 places available - on a first come first served basis.  When the 12 places have gone, we will add people to a reserve list.

About Writing for Joy

Living with a chronic illness and/or pain can be very challenging as we all know.   It makes it really important for us to do things that bring us joy and enable an escape from the everyday world. Join us for creative writing session on three consecutive winter Sundays . These sessions will be run by published writer, Rose McGinty.  A message from Rose follows...

"Hello I’m Rose McGinty, an author, HMSA Trustee and I have hypermobility. Creative writing has got me through some difficult health issues and now I want to share those techniques and the joy writing can bring. I’d like to create a small creative community - where we we will close out our everyday worries and explore other worlds and lives through our imaginations. We will look at a different aspect of writing each week: character, landscape and time. You can be an experienced writer or have never written before. We will not be judging each other’s writing or offering any critique - this is about the pure joy of writing."

What to expect

Each session will last 1 1/2 hours online and all I ask is that as far as possible you commit to coming to all three sessions so that we can nuture our group.

We have a maximum of 12 places available. The sessions will run from 4 to 18 February inclusive from 4-5.30pm via Zoom.  

Rose explains: "This is not a creative wiring course about writing a novel or finding a route to publication. There are lots of such courses run by publishers, agents, universities and others. This is a space to be free from the pressures of those aspirations, the competition and ups and downs that come with all that.

Secondly, this is most definitely not a therapy group. We won’t be talking specifically about our hypermobility or problems with services. All of those things are valuable and there are support groups and helplines with the right expertise to deal with them. This space is an escape pod from all that. Of course our bendy minds and bodies will inspire our writing though but in a creative way. 

So please it’s the one thing I really ask us all to respect - this is a creative and reflective space and let’s keep everything else outside of it.

It’s also a safe and kind space - we’re not going to critique each other’s work as may happen in other writing workshops - just enjoy everyone’s words and let them shine. And, what happens in our session, stays in our session."

This session will be run on Zoom.
