More information about the session:
Many people living with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) or hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) experience troubling gut problems. Gut problems may also be experienced by people living with mast cell activation syndrome and/or postural tachycardia syndrome. Unfortunately, there are limited evidence-based resources which patients can access to learn more about these gut problems.
Dr Mohsin Butt and Professor Qasim Aziz are joint scientific editors for a not-for-profit, patient friendly textbook which summarises the latest scientific evidence exploring the association between hEDS/HSD and gut problems, as well as important management strategies. Mohsin Butt is a Clinical Research Fellow in Neurogastroenterology and NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow. Professor Qasim Aziz, neurogastroenterologist, is a member of the HMSA’s clinical advisory group. He specialises in diseases of the gut that affect its nervous system, muscles and connective tissue.
Book chapters have been written by international experts in the field of gut dysfunction and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Importantly, the book’s content has been shaped by people living with hEDS/HSD, as well as their caregivers. Proceeds from the book, which is planned for publication by March 2024, will fund further neurogastroenterology related work.
Dr Butt and Professor Aziz will be leading this patient session for the HMSA to tell you more about the book and the advice it provides.
This session will be run on Zoom. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
We look forward to seeing you there! (You will be sent an email with a link to the event within a few hours, so please check your junk/spam folder if you can't see it.)
