Occupational TherapyPart 3 OTs can advise in how to plan your day, offering advice which hobbies and interests you could enjoy. Alongside this however, we cannot escape from the housework! Yes, OTs can help here, too! OTs can help work out a plan of household tasks in which everyone can participate which may make it a little easier for everyone. OTs can advise whether Home Care/Help from Social Services could help you. Time for a rest! OTs can look at your chairs, checking their height and how you get on/off. They may be able to raise your favourite chair or provide a high back armchair, if necessary. Some OTs can advise on relaxation techniques. We all know about trying to pace ourselves during the day, and here you can discuss your lifestyle with the OTs, perhaps involving your family so that everyone understands how much or little help you need from them. Bang, crash, wallop! This is my phrase for when I collide into doorways, tables or anything else. Please do let the OTs know where you tend to do this, and if you trip or fall in certain places at home. Again, the OT can advise here, perhaps suggesting a reorganisation of your furniture, flooring or use of grab rails.
