Neck Stablisation - urgent advice needed!

Postby lizzie22 » Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:18 pm

Hi Everyone,

I did do a search but if i've missed something, bare with me.

Went to see Prof G last night and, to cut a long story short, he has booked me in for an urgent dynamic (not sure what the difference is between a dynamic and a normal MRI) MRI scan on my neck. He explained that it is very unstable and if the MRI confirms it then I am to have surgery asap, like within 1 or 2 days, to put pins in etc. I just wanted to know if anyone has had the same thing or similar becasue I really could do with some advice as I am very scared. Any advice at all would be great. I've had a look on the internet but not been able to find that much. Can anyone help?

Hi Lizzie

I am sorry that I can't help with any information, but I just want to say that I think you are in good hands. It must be scary to be told something like this, and have things happen so fast, but I am sure Prof Grahame will take great care of you. Please let us know how you are getting on.

:bye:

Hi,

after a quick search in Pubmed I found these:

stabilization and rheumatoid arthritis

fusion

for paediatric patients

literature review

cervical dystonia

hope they help, did not read them, so I'm not sure if they are useful.

Hi Lizzie,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. What a shock for you. I'm guessing a dynamic MRI involves movement in some way. I tried looking it up and think it has something to do with repeatedly taking images and putting them together to make a moving film.

I hope you know what to expect soon and that all goes well for you.

Hi

am sorry about the shock of this info so suddenly and am hoping the outcome of mri does not indicate urgent surgery. My thoughts are with you if indeed you do need surgery but I am absolutely sure this would not be carried out unless it is absoutely essential. Thinking of you but have no medical information to be of assistance I am afraid.

Please let us know how you get on if you can.

Dont know if this is at all related but have had a nose bleed for the last two days, still going on now. Its not been heavy but its definitely been enough to need to carry round tissues with me all the time. Has also been from both sides of my nose too.

I've had this a few times before recently ranging from a day to 3 days and always from both sides. Kinda hoping its not related.

Any ideas?

Hi Lizzie,

Sorry no ideas on the neck stabilisation or the cause of the nosebleeds but you really should get it checked out. As it's happened before if they check you out while your still having one they might be able to get to the root cause

Hey hey Lizzie,

I'm sorry, I have no advice, I just don't know enough, but I think getting the nosebleed checked out sounds sensible. I just wanted to wish you all the very best with the MRI and subsequent treatment. Thinking of you honey

Best wishes,
S

Lizzie,
I'm thinking of you tomorrow. As the others have said, the prof knows what he's talking about. I hope the mri gives you the answers one way or the other and you will be able to get whatever the correct treatment is soon. Hopefully you will have a chance to ask any questions that you need to ask after the mri.
Take care.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I appreciate the help. Turns out the scan has now been rescheduled. Was definitely tomorrow, now maybe tomorrow or wednesday. Not sure why. We were told that as its urgent it will be asap, however not sure when asap will be. Apparently Prof Grahame is having a word to get it done soon as he asked for it to be done tomorrow. Rather confused now :(
