one question, am i the only one who doesn@t get much relief from morphine? no one can understand it......

Hi Katie,

After my Hysterectomy I was on a patient administered morphine pump and was told to press the button whenever I felt pain. I kept pressing it when I had a but nothing really happened. From what I understand, the normal response is to be knocked out by the morphine but I was quite wide awake but still in pain . It took me ages to realise it wasn't having any effect though and I kept pressing the button in my post op haze . Is the morphine making you feel itchy? I had to come off the pump after a day or two and start having diclofenac suppostries instead . I found these worked a lost better.

Hi Sue my mum was the same when she had her hip replacement done the morphine didn't have much effect on her so they re started her on her tramadol which she found alot better.

Came home yesterday, feeling much better but still sore from using crutches etc.

On Thursday it got to the point where I was being given ibuprofen, paracetomol, codeine, tramadol and morphine to deal with the pain.......... I was pretty out of it. Pain is much better now because I am taking things BEFORE it gets bad rather than having to go by a hospitals schedule.

Ok, so its only been just over a week and I am wishing I never had the d**n op done.

I havee had numereous accidents which have meant I have ended up over stretching my newly repaired ligament to the point where I have been in agony for a good a few minutes (despite my plaster cast). Not only that, but my crutches get in the way of everything and are half the problem so I have now taken to just limping around the flat.

The worst part is that I forgot just how much having one leg out affects the other leg even with crutches. My left knee (op done on right ankle) is sooooooooooooo painful, I have had to phone the physio to make an emergency appointment. I can barely sit down or get up witth out some expletive popping out my mouth and walking is a huge issue too........ If I take all my meds then it is relieved but codeine knocks me out and I usually end up having more accidents with my ankle..................


Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh, NEVER AGAIN, although I fear I have messed it up so may havee to go through it all again, but I will wait until we have a)moved somewhere bigger so I actually fit in the kitchen with crutches and theree isn't toys all over the place to the extent that there is now and b) I shall wait till the kiddies are older.............

Sorry to hear things are so tough with trying to cope. Haven't got any good suggestions, except to discuss these problems with the physio - it may be they can offer some good advice.

I guess that hindsight is a beautiful thing huh?

I am much happier today which is a key thing. Still sore BUT we have gotten rid of Sky tv today and are planning on just doing away with the tv or something. Will save £40 a month so we are going to the beach!!!!!!!!

So, pain=bad but I am so thats ok........

I have also found that if I turn on some music and get juicing and smoothieing and then drink itt, my pain levels drop. How about that then????????? So, its what I do in the morning once I manage to get up........

Sooooooooo,My first plaster came off today and it has been replaced with a bright pink one. I had an (insert expletive of your choice) of a physio but thats not the important bit!!!!

I finally found out what they actually did!!!!!!! They sewed 2 ligaments together, cut one of those ligaments and then drilled through the tip of my fibula and routed that ligament through there, then (because I had specifically asked) they sewed me up real careful and they avoided using stitches on the outer bit opting instead for a ton of of those butterfly type stitch thingers. Apparently, they had planned on putting my ankle in a frame but due to my scarring they opted for the plaster cast instead (although its fibre glass).

It looks PERFECT, however, time will tell. Some of my scars have looked perfect to begin with and then they start to do stretch etc...... Anyhoo, looks fantastic and I am chuffed!!!!!!!! They pain might just be worth it after all!!!!!

Bit of advice though....... Do not go ahead with such operations if your living/family situation is already tricky, it really does not help!!!!!!!! But WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW............. Can ya tell I am happy!

Wow pink brilliant colour I would have definatly gone for the same. Am glad the scars have begun to heal. Take Care hun and I hope it continues to improve.
