Hi Louisa,

I'm sure NickB will be along soon to answer most of your post but I can answer at least part of it because it's something I'd already thought of. Things like keyrings etc require a start-up cost which is something that the HMSA as a small charity just couldn't cope with.

I totally agree that awareness needs to be raised nationwide.

Another thought is fun runs ( of course you'd have to find someone who could actually run!)

 Or we could do a fun wobble and roll instead! Find us a nice short paved circuit in Hyde Park or somewhere, see if we can borrow a few spare wheelchairs from nearby organisations for folks who have a bit too much of a wobble on? Hmm ... Ever heard of the 'Karma Army'? I'll bet they could find us some able bodied, enthusiastic volunteers to help us out! We'd probably need the support of St. Johns! You're a member aren't you Retro? There'd be a cost to that though I suppose? Ooh, and a nice refreshments station so we don't have to carry loads of drinks with us ... Betcha we could blag the loan of a portaloo from some company too! And ask the London Marathon organisers if we can borrow some of their funky silver blankets just in case! Maybe we could raise enough to cover the start up costs for some HMSA merchandise?  There's an HMS Olympics thread somewhere - maybe we should use some of those ideas too!

I like your thinking Weiza! I really should post some of my own ideas, but it is time for me to get off this site and make some food!

Best wishes,
S

Hi weiza,

We have all had these thoughts more than once, however as Retro has explained the complicating factor is that the charity is so short of funds that the last time it tried anything on the scale you are suggesting it actually didn't cover its costs. So that the thread doesn't go all off topic with suggestions I think it would be a good idea for you to contact nickb chair of the HMSA so that she explain properly the problem. We are an incredibly underfunded charity and whilst it may sound silly to say that we can't afford to print t-shirts etc in essence it is true. At present we are relying on individual's efforts for fundraising, and the forums are free, many are not members of the Charity. The boards are run entirely by volunteers without which including those behind the scenes we wouldn't be here. Input is welcomed but do please contact nickb as she is the one with the detail.
