I have tried dr martens yes, i have funky purple metallic ones <3 they still allow my ankles to rock all over the place even with my orthotics

star gazer sounds like your toes do similar to mine, my big toe twists towards the rest of my toes, subluxes constantly when i walk. drives me nuts, so painful!

My ankles still rock all over the place but at the moment they are the most supportive thing I've found.
Your Dr Martens sound awesome!!! I've just been looking at some on amazon and they have some in metallic pink...I wish I had some money!!!

They originally wanted me to have NHS boots (yuck!!) but the orthotist said they'd not be supportive enough which is when we moved on to braces. just hope she can make some that are right for me! She works in the hypermobility clinic at great ormond st too, so i'm hoping she knows her stuff.

I love my DM's, I saw some lilac ones the other day that I want, no, NEED. Bit silly with summer approaching though!

I now use the rigid type AFO's and have found these to be a very good thing. Hopefully your orthotics will be able to make something like that. They mean that you don't have full use of the ankle but I can now walk better than I used to with the walking frame and have far greater ankle stability and reduced pain. Hopefully this may help you.

When I worked at naidex accompany their called trulife has some very interesting new design and come orthotics which looked to be much better than the old-fashioned variety. It could be worth looking them up on the Internet.

I picked up my custom made ones from stanmore last week, just need to get a shoe horn and am good to go. Hopefully it'll mean I can start doing some more walking again (with crutches for balance).

Star gazer

I was interested to see you have managed to get some hotter shoes which fit your orthotics etc. Would you mind telling me which style they are please? Like you I am sick to death of not having anything I can wear comfortably over the summer.

Cheers

Hi all

The best thing about hotter shoes is that their insoles come out so you can put your own ones in, gives more room than most. I eventually had to ask for a pair of NHS shoes so that I could wear my braces whenever I needed to. OK, so they look like old men's shoes, but they are comfortable, and they were free.

I have been in AFO's for several years, but I have lost weight and I am dislocating inside them. The NHS orthotics are taking forever to do anything about it, so I have just ordered Donjoy Velocity ankle braces. Recommended to me by several other bendies, and so far I am liking them. They are not cheap, and I need to go shoe shopping as my old 'non-orthotic' shoes are too small, and the shoes that worked with my AFO's are too big. Still, everyone loves an excuse for new shoes
