Rather impressed with the hospital atm. After speaking to doc on Tuesday, got appointment letter through today for Stacey to start physio on the 8th May. 3 days to organise and send the letter. :D Not often that different departments within the hospital work so well together.

Quick update, has an appointment for MRI scan on 15th May. Really impressed with the NHS at the moment. They have been really fast at getting the appointments in order for this knee problem.

Aww madmum, how long have u been waiting? Doc reckoned she would have to wait about 3-6 weeks for physio and 2-3 months for MRI. So it was rather a pleasant surprise to get them through so soon :)

Just back from first physio appointment, not looking too great. On one hand physio definitely thinks she's HMS. On the other hand, knees are so far gone she's not sure how much physio will be able to help, but gonna give it a go. Gonna be a long haul thing by the looks of things

Edit: Referral to podiatrist too to see if they can help any :)

Knee physio is a long haul as both my son and I can vouch for. My son was an in patient for two weeks coming two years ago and is still having problems. He has exercises to do every day. I am still working on my knee which started with problems 25 years ago. Got a scan date for my knee,it is being done on the same day as my ankle scan on 19th May. Would otherwise had to have waited for 10 weeks+. Not sure what will happen with my wrist as I cannot use the brace during the scan due to the metal. Hope your daughter can manage her physio and it helps her. Hugs.

Thnx Madmum. Physio, who was HM herself was absolutely brilliant with her to be honest. Said it would be worthwhile doing if only to build strength in the other muscles, but definitely looking like surgery, which the doc really doesn't want to do given it's success rates, so physio should help pre op if that's the road they are going to go down. We're home with only 3 exercises to do, can't do the 4th as it was putting strain on the other ankle which was broken not long back. Go back in 3 weeks and she's hoping to introduce some exercises for the broken ankle too, but even the physio couldn't believe how lax her knee was. Have told her it's up to her to do what she's told now and hope it does some good :) And no more sitting in that position to play her xbox!!! :wall:

My son has just one right now. I have said the same to him. Hope your daughter does try and gets some benefit. Sending hugs.

Aww thanks hon. Pretty sure her xbox position definitely makes things worse, legs crossed, almost doubled over in two to play. Hope the wee man's getting a wee bit of relief, know he's not had things easy.

Stacey was in agony yesterday after physio. Probably just all the manipulation that was done, so told her to have a break yesterday and try again today, even if she doesn't get the hold for a full 10 seconds or 10 repetitions, if she can do some it will be better than none. Said both knees are very mobile, but obviously the left being worse than the right. Think she's wanting to do all she can to avoid the surgery route, even though it's looking inevitable.

Stacey can use ice after exercise to help. My son is currently doing just a couple of reps and for less time and building on it. His physio has said even a small amount is better than none at all. Sitting cross legged is a definite no no for him as it stretches ligaments. Hope you are both doing ok.

Yes hon, she's been following the RICE recommendations following her physio. Both me and the physio were nagging her about her gaming position :wall: She's been a bit sore, but has cut it down to about half what was recommended. Knee has taken to locking when in sitting position. This is a new one for her as it usually just goes like jelly and doesn't support her, so there's lots of cursing going on atm when that happens. I hear you on the owt is better than nowt. That's what I've tried to say to her, think she's in two minds about surgery. Doesn't want it, but is getting more agreeable that she may need it.

Hoping the appointment for the orthapod doesn't take too long to come through after she gets the MRI scan on Tuesday, at least then she'll know what she has to deal with. Took her shopping this afternoon, and she was like a bear with a sore head, guess it's just the extra pain making her like that :)

I'm doing great, keeping a smile on my face and trying very hard not to bite back :)

Is the wee man coping any better at school?

Hi,sorry for delay but been having computer problems. Hope the mri went ok. My mri is this weekend. My son is still not coping. Been a call today but said to them try him elevating his leg and get to lunch. If he is still struggling phone again and I will go to him. I am getting frustrated he keeps coming home,he missing such a lot. He is with his physio next week,we need a strategy.

Aww bless him. Sounds like he's in so much pain.

Stacey had her MRI, just waiting for the doc to read it and send us an appointment through. Doc was itching to see it so hopefully not too long to wait. I know what you mean about missing school, Stacey's just got no life at the moment. Only time she's going out is when I take her out. And then it's like a military operation. Knee strapped, check! Ortho boot, check! Crutches, check! And that's just for going to the supermarket. Doesn't often use her crutches in there tho, relies on the trolley for support.

Back at dentist on Friday, not sure if she's still got a bit of infection or maybe had a sublux in her jaw when she was there the last time, gonna get him to check it. Then I think we're gonna need to find her a dentist that has a downstairs surgery, she's not doing the flight of stairs very well at all at the moment.
