Seeing things that aren't really there

Hi everyone

This is going to sound very strange...but sometimes I see things that aren't really there or I mistake an object for a person etc. This happens particularly when I'm driving which can freak me out a bit. For example I might think that I see a person standing by the side of the road and then I blink and they are gone, but it's enough to make me jump. Today I thought a raindrop on my windscreen was a dead animal on the road and I actually swerved! I have experienced this for most of my life (used to see 'ghosts' sometimes when I was little), and it happens more regularly when I'm stressed or tired.

Do you think this could be in any way linked to HMS? Or at least a related anxiety issue? I never have auditory hallucinations and the thinks I see/mistake don't normally move too much, so I don't know if you could call them hallucinations as such. I'm seeing my gp tomorrow to try for a proper diagnosis of HMS (if, of course, I really do have it), would it be worth mentioning? I mentioned it to a gp years ago and he looked a bit afraid and moved on swiftly. Helpful!

Hi there, I have auditory processing problems, which means that my brain tends to mis-interpret the things I hear and just take a wild guess at it, sometimes getting it spectacularly wrong!! :S Could it be possible that your visual processing is a bit dodgy? could explain how things appear to be other things?
hope this helps, Flora
