Hi, was just wondering if it sounds like I have IBS, I get

Stomach pains
Gas
Farting (sorry lol)
The runs
Constipation

I have tried to keep a food diary to see if it is anything in particular that sets it off and it seems to be random.

Also is IBS connected with HMS?

I would go see your gp.

Just because ibs and hms are linked doesn't necessarily mean it's caused by your hms, my gp gave me anti spasmodics which helped significantly.
Diagnosed with hypermobile shoulders, hips and hands in August 2011. Done a good few months of physiotherapy sessions and it was definitely worth all the effort! :3

Did your symptoms seem to start after you had a bad stomach bug?

No, not that I remember, had it for years though so I can't really pin point when it started.

Do you get pain straight after eating? Are the symptoms constant or do they occur for a few days or weeks bore stopping then start again maybe a few weeks later?

Yeah they can be on and off a lot, I can be fine of a couple of weeks and then have an attack which can last a few days, I can get pain after eating and sometimes even during eating or it can be as much as 30-45 minutes later.

My son has ibs. He gets flare ups when stressed or overtired. He is constipated one minute then has the runs. He also gets stomach cramps. He takes buscopan when needed which helps. He also struggles with some foods like brown bread and is lactose intolerant.

GL, I would just mention it all to your G.P. as I'm pretty sure they will be able to help you. I have been prescribed mebeverine and that works for me, but since you have constipation at some times and the runs at others, I would suspect your IBS is HMS related and you'll probably be prescribed something different.

It's scary how many people also suffer from all these related conditions but also comforting to know you're not alone.... Until I started researching on here I was beginning to think I was going crazy - severely constipated, feel like I have bricks in my stomach it's so heavy, painful adn bloated then of course at times the other occurs like today. I've tried all the usual remedies orange juice, high fibre foods but still no luck, I work full time and am losing so many hours due to this..... any other ideas anyone?

Hi all

Lousie, do have a read through this thread if you can as there are some good ideas in here. In general, insoluble fibre (like bran) may not be helpful as it works by bulking up the contents of the bowel. In me this just makies the pain and constipation worse as the bowel goes into spasm and the fuller it is the more painful it is. Soluble fibre may be of more benefit. You could google IBS and see what the support group for IBS suggests. Aloe vera juice works for soem people, although it can take a while.

thank you I will do that.... one of my big issues with it is the abdominal swelling, I can go to work normal (well as normal as I can be haha) and a few hours go past and my stomach is severely bloated and hard - it's really quite painful.... I don't eat unhealthy foods in fact i've been dieting and eating nutritious foods but this has been going on as long as I can remember. Thanks for the advice :) xx

im alternating between the 2 at the moment but that's probably the sporadic docusate dosing. must reorder that as soon as possible.
i know the weather can affect our joints but can it affect our bowels?

Anyone got a problem digesting popcorn? My quite bloated tonight hoping it's just the air.

Has anyone found aloe vera juice drank neat loosens them up? (think it's a bad idea so wouldn't advise it) but if you find a
small amount with breakfast drink helps for example please let me know folks.

trekster, if you run out of docusate and that's causing problems you can by it OTC as dulcoease (there are a couple of different things under that brand so make sure you're getting docusate
