i hate the itchiness my skin is very itchy at the moment. I do take an anit-hestimine but that isnt helping at all with it. it is keeping the allergies at bay. I do have ezcema over most of my body which isnt getting treated at the moment because I cant reach most of them. One the most itchy places in my back and also my pelvic area.

Just found this thread - another itcher here! I also get that sensation where the itch seems to be in one place but when I scratch there, it's not actually there at all and I have to try and track down the source. And scratching hurts!! I also get that random sting, we always called it 'clothes sting', lol. It can be incredibly painful!!

I thought I'd put this here as I couldn't find another thread for it. I got a really bad cold over Christmas and about 2 days into it my face and throat suddenly became really itchy, sensitive and my eczema flared up just above the bridge of my nose, on my eyelids ( :!: ) and my temples. I wasn't taking any new medications and hadn't changed any toiletries or anything. The only thing I can think is that my immune system was over-stimulated from the cold and decided that my face should be hyper-sensitive to everything - even my Liz Earle felt like putting acid on my face. I had to add in anti-histamines to my meds, but they didn't completely help, just slightly reduced the reaction. My cold is finally gone now, but the face sensitivity is continuing.
Anyone else experienced this kind of thing?

My gran whose a suspected bendy has varicose eczema on both her legs. They are weeping and she has a district nurse in twice a week to change the stockings. My mum changes her stockings daily.

Was wondering if this is connected to being bendy? If so any particular types of EDS?

My exczema is flared up really bad at the moment and my legs are all itchy and covered in little open sores. They are already really scarred from years of it going unrecognised and untreated and the scars are so visible - my legs are normal colour and the scars dark purple (must be EDS)
I'm not sure how to treat it - I take antihistamines daily, put dipribase, E45 or sudocrem on it and none of them are helping. Steroid cream thins my skin out so much it starts tearing.
Anyone got any help?

Hi Loosebones,

My daughter gets eczema and uses diprobase. The Dr has said that there is another cream similar which is more expensive should diprobase cause itching, so it might be worth asking your GP for a more expensive cream. Don't know whether Eloise on this forum could help with names of alternatives for you.

Anyway just a thought. :)

Is what gran has, think it's because the blood is pooling due to lack of activity.

hi LB, you are under a lot of pressure at the moment which increases stress hormones, which may be contributing to your skin problem.

I have a few different eczema's according to my dermatologist. I have the purple scarring as you do and yep I believe it is down to our EDS.

Make sure you have removed all perfumed, scented products from your toiletries and household detergents. Which guess you have already done.

My dermatologist also said we have to use so much moisturising cream that our skin will not absorb it all and several times a day. I use E45 cream (not lotion as it isnt heavy enough). Are you using enough cream and do you use diprobase in your bath? look at your diet which I know is a nightmare for you as well.

Then ultimately go back to the G.P. ask for the blood tests to rule out any underlying problem before referring back to your dermatologist. I think it is a combination of things for you but you do need to go to the G.P. to rule out the basics as well. It is very easy to forget that we can develop other conditions as well as the HMS.

Try not to wear man made materials at the moment, stick to cottons where possible and nothing scratchy! and silly as it sounds try relaxation

Any foods in particular that cause skin problems? Gran is off most cow dairy and doesn't have wholemeal stuff either.
Shes using some cream twice a day (will find out what).

I take Piriton, which is useful because it zonks me out too (I'm a terrible sleeper). Funny to discover itchy skin might be an HMS trait, or maybe we've all got fleas!

Managed to get an appt with a Dr today (not my usual one) but he was helpful and has given me a different antihistamine and some gentle steroid cream to use as diprobase/e45 and sudocrem aren't working.
fingers crossed

found out today my grans on hydromol twice per day for her varicose eczema. Also she has changed her washing powder recently
which might explain a rash on her back.

Alexis, varicose eczema is a skin condition caused by poor circulation - nothing to do with 'normal' eczema, which is sometimes caused by allergies.
