Not HMS related, but the other day I was feeling very down - walking home trying not to cry - nearly bumped into a homeless guy, we smiled at each other (as you do in these situations), he said a wholehearted 'Merry Christmas', which I cheerfully returned - such a small gesture, a smile and a kind word from a stranger - made me feel lots better :)

My professor at uni has been pretty cool about the EDS. I was missing quite a few lectures because of a flare up so I explained her about it briefly as to why i was absent. In the lecture the other day, my elbow just would not co-operate i really needed to crack it to realign it but it just wouldn't go. After the lecture she caught up with me on the way to her office and asked me if i was ok. She'd seen me stretching a lot and wincing and wanted to make sure everything was fine after what I had told her about EDS she was concerned something was out of place.

It was a really nice gesture that she took the time to ask me after class and to even notice. It was also pretty tactful, not pointing it out during the lecture but coming up discreetly.

Here's to good profs!

At the appointment with the student adviser on Friday she said to me that no matter how long it takes it is better to come out with a good grade and with health than to struggle through and finish with bad grades and bad health. She really understood what I was talking about with regards to the fatigue and pain getting in the way and that it's not because I'm being "lazy". The university have been very supportive :)

A friend of mine asked me if i could manage to push myself because he saw me struggling. For someone whose supposed to not recognise body language or when to ask for help i felt it was very kind of him to ask. i had a great time in Coventry and friends took it in turns to push me yesterday.

Pleased ive got NAIDEX soon cos then i can push myself easier with my new wheels.

That was kind of them cracker.

'You're alright' is a comment I often get from 1 person in particular.

'We really appreciate you running this social group' was another comment, both last night.
The 2nd comment was because I told them after a previous charity had cut the funding I
decided to keep the group going 'because I like helping autistic people'.

i told my podiatrist about the HMSA and he's going to advertise HMSA to his patients.
Also told him about a charity he might be personally interested in.

So if you are in North Somerset, there is a patient lovely podiatrist here :-)

i was at bluewater today in hawkins bazarr i on cruches at the minit i had my olympics hoodie on & the manager asked if i was in the paralimpics. when i said nah i wish i was but becose i got learning difficalities i could do special olypics.
then he said you guys are in insperation a admire all diabled people the prarlympics are better than the olympics.
when he asked what wrong with me i told him about my HMS.
then he said hes proud of all diabled people.
we had a nice chat about the paralymics then he said hes got a bad knee too becose he came off his bike but then he siad watching the paralympics & team GB has made him proud to be british.
that made me feel really happy that some people do acutally understand & see the person & not the disability.
i thort i'd share it with you all.   :bday:

I`ve gotten both good and comments. I`m fortunate enough to have some very supportive friends and family, as well as a supportive bf, and I know many who are struggling with their own illnesses.

My last bf was really mean about my health issues and would always make comments about how I should be working harder, or how I was lazy. I've had a friends who also made comments about how I'm not working (I am going to school) and they're surprised I'm not doing more... but I find that a lot of times people say things thinking that they're helping, when they really don't undersatnd the situation. I find that after I explain my situation to people, they are more understanding.

Great to know you have the emotional support you need and are rid of the ex.
I've also got some supportive friends, gran called me 'very helpful' the other day
which i really appreciated once i had realised it was a compliment (misoverheard
my name and was wondering what the comment was about)
