Hi Sheppey
enjoyed reading your blog. I'm due to do the rehabilitation in May so it was really useful and put my mind at rest a bit as I tend to suffer with fear of the unknown!!
Thanks Julie

Yeah they had a leak in the mens wing and they normally hold the pre-assessments and follow ups in the male conservatories. All the floorboards are being pulled up, new heating put in, filling in the floor with concrete and putting in new flooring. Was told that the male wing will be shut for 6 weeks so no new male patients during that time, not sure on the situation on the womens side with regards to new patients. I know that there are no new week 1s starting this week.

So-so mate. A lot of changes so it is quite stressful. Got a new physio this week and we have pretty much ruled out walking in the long term, just working on making it safe to transfer and stabilise my shoulders to use the manual chair. At least they have done the orthotics referral now so I should see someone before I leave, my ankles are too screwed at the moment to hold me up unfortunately  Managed to sleep so well on Saturday night that I woke up with both shoulders and ankles dislocated was horrible as I couldn't put anything back myself because my arms were floppy and useless :boohoo: We are in our own rooms now though so hopefully the snoring wont keep me awake

I've just made my first appointment - 2nd April...
I hope I'm going to be suitable for the rehab programme.

What do they normally do in the first appt? Do they give you any useful advice? How long is the wait from there?

Hi Rainbowsbutterflies
My first appt was in sept and my preassessment appt was beg of dec. The first appt with Dr C was a really positive experience for me. Very thorough and informative. I was lucky enough to then go to preassessment and told 1 wk before xmas that I had made it to the waiting list! I was told my date beg Jan. My date to go in is 8th May so it has taken a while from start to finish but hopefully worth the wait. Like you I wasn't sure if I was suitable so try to keep positive :)

Dr c also gave me some ideas of goals to work on while I was waiting and helped me feel that i was achieving something whilst waiting.

Good luck
Julie

I was hoping the 8 months was from referral not from the first appointment - that takes me to December. Oh well, at least it's a step in the right direction!

Hiya

I saw Dr Cohen last month for referral to the rehab program. She told me it would be about 8 months total from hrt referral to the inpatient stay - aproximately 4 months to the assessment appointment and then another 4 months to the course. They are hoping to speed things up soon as the demand is so high.

Hope this helps

Am being discharged today. AFAIK they are still working on the mens wing and so there might be a wait to get in on that side. I'm not sure what they are doing on the womens side but the nurse was telling me that the waiting list for womens side is 6 months between pre-assessment and coming in.

I saw Dr Cohen on 5th Jan 2012, my Pre assesment was on 24th Feb 2012 (last friday) and ive got a 2 week wait for a letter to see if i am approved or not, then up to a 4 month wait i believe to be admitted if approved.

I must say it seems very good, they were very honest and upfront about what they do too, very impressed and sat with my fingers crossed for the next 2 weeks now :D
