Wow looking back at this thread I've had quite a few incidents with my hip. I still get a lot of nerve pain in my right hip, it's very clunky and unstable. Trying to rest it up and take the weight off it. Am I being impatient with the healing process? It doesn't seem to heal up properly before it gets injured again :( Or am I to just expect it to keep happening. Anything I can do to prevent it?

it might be time to see your doctor about it- maybe you just need a bit of physio focussed on your hips to help yu activate the muscles that stabilise the hip.... or have you been checked for hip dysplasia? there are operations that can be done to reduce the instability (often by making the socket wider and deeper so it covers the ball part of the joint properly).

and have you tried stretching your hips etc? muscle tension pains can get very bad if it's active for a long period and it can result in sprained ligaments and torn muscle fibres etc.... my pelvis gets really sore and stretching helps ease some of the pain so i can deal with the rest easier.

i use these stretches, its a schedule for the whole body but has some good hip and pelvis stretches in it: http://www.healthquestchiropractictucson.com/resources/HealthQuest+Chiropractic$2C+LLC+Stretch+Sheet.jpg :)

I have seen my GP about it last time I went but she said I should ask about it at Stanmore as she doesn't really know what to do with me. Only about 6 weeks to go until I go there so just holding myself together best I can until then

Been up since 5 am due to my hip clunking, grinding, slipping about and generally very painful! Every time I move, so eventually gave up on sleep! Have written my holiday list instead to make us of the time!

I do the same thing mate, it feels like it is healing and better (probably masked by the painkillers slightly) and so I go and do too much and put myself back in the same position I was before. Done my hips in several times now in 2011 and it is the worst pain that I get except my lower back pain which is only slightly worse. When it is bad I can't move my right leg at all or put any weight on it.

I'm finding my knee or hip locks so I can't move it properly. Also I get a painful knee on 1 side and a painful hip on the other,
pleased I have allyminium. My hips used to dislocate badly when I was a teenager and I had to try really hard to get them back
in the right position.

Pain in hips and buttocks, any advice?

Postby Tilly22 » Tue Jan 31, 2012 12:31 pm

Hi everyone!
Hope someone can give me some advice with this one or at least can relate.
I have HMS EDS II and of course suffer from pain all over really but last night felt one of the worst pains I've ever felt with my HMS. I got up from my living room to go up to bed and felt sharp pain in both sides of my lower hips which I can also really feel in my buttocks. I was quite alarmed as I've done nothing strenuous, it just came over me all of a sudden. I had no sleep last night as I couldn't find a position to support my hips without them hurting, it feels really sharp when I lie on them and almost like there's pressure making me want to lie on my back. It's really hard to explain so sorry if I'm coming across pretty vague .
Got up this morning and physically couldn't get up out of the bed as I couldn't put pressure on my hips without feeling pain, I had to get onto my stomach and push myself up until I was on my knees, jeez I feel 90 and I'm only 19!!!
Went downstairs as I'm taking a break from work at the moment and literally hobbled along. It's not too bad now I'm sat down it's when I start to walk I feel like I can't put any pressure what so ever on my hips, feels pretty awful and it just got me worried as it's affecting my walking more than anything. Dreading getting into bed tonight now to be honest. Had this pain before a few months ago it's almost as if my hips are so stiff it prevents me from walking, can anyone relate to this or does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

Thanks guys, T x

Ive got a sharp pain going down my left leg lasting the past week, my physio thought it was lack of the exercises but i hurt
it doing a knee exercise.

The other hip is very painful today, I cant sleep on my back or front but im guessing that 8 hours in bed last night (longest in ages)
caused it to sublux? It has been very painful lately especially today

Any ideas how to stop my hip subluxing in bed? It's out most nights! The same knee is giving me a lot of trouble at the moment so walking is hell. I use sticks outside the house, but not inside.

I've got a similar situation with my right hip. It is very painful and im up to my maximum dose of gabapentin. Got 2 more doses of co codamol.
How many days would you put up with painful hips before ringing your rhemy and asking for an increased dose?

Having the same problem with my right hip and have been for about 6 months. I use blankets to stop my leg rolling outwards. If I don't it really hurts my hip and pulls my right knee out too. The bed at the hotel has a dip in the middle which is exacerbating it making my hip and knee really painful

someone told be about ankle braces for nighttime that have "wings" at each side so if you lie on your back your legs cant roll to the side. at the moment i am using wedges to keep my legs in place but right hip bad at the moment, i find that wearing an SI belt low down helps during the day as i feel that with an unstable pelvis my hips are more likely to rotate out also do lots of damage each time my ankles turn over as it yanks the hip out at the same time, my ortho braces dont seem to hole them in place so the ankles still go causing the hips to go too.
In bed I put a pillow between my knees so that the top leg is level and doesnt rotate forward, then use a wedge behind to stop tipping back, its a real palaver when i want to turn over but it does help.

I do the rolled up blanket under the side of my leg thing too! It is a complete pain to get comfy every night between that and the pillows I have to wedge under my shoulder to stop them dropping out as often, but it does help when they are really bad. It tried sleeping in my SI belt, but wake up to find that I have taken it off in my sleep! I have noticed that my knee is increasingly turning inwards, due mainly I think to inward rotation in my hip! My hip is getting worse and worse, but the Physio just says that I need to work on my core strengthening stuff and it will be fine! I am pretty sure that I have damaged to cartilage in there somewhere, as it makes all sorts of cracking and popping sounds, and as I said rotates inwards. I have given up with the GP's as they all seem to think that any problem I have is just down to HMS and that I am not doing enough Physio! I am trying not to use my wheelchair too much as I do not want to lose any more muscle strength, as I am pretty sure that's why I am in this mess after resting up for 2 weeks following abdominal surgery, but am finding it harder and harder to walk anywhere without being in absolute agony. It causing me loads of knee pain too as my knee now bends sideways! Just totally fed up!
Finally diagnosed March 2011 after 20 years of hypochondria!!!
