Inspirational Quotes (and other things)

Postby Smol » Thu Jan 05, 2012 12:36 pm

Hiya BendyPeeps
Mods I couldn't find anywhere else to put this, so if it's in the wrong spot please feel free to move it to somewhere more appropriate.

I felt that there was not a lot of positive posts (as most of us, tend to come on to find out info and tell their stories) So would like an area that people can post nice quotes or stories that have uplifted them. I'll start it off with a lovely one I saw today on facebook, enjoy!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this." He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it...?" Still the hands were up in the air. "Well," he replied, "What if I... do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air. "My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. You are special-Don't EVER forget it." If you do not pass this on, you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to, or the hope that it may bring. Count your blessings, not your problems.

Love it!!

I work for a charity for people wiht disabilities and have this quote on my wall!

Children with disabilities are like butterflies with a broken wing. They are just as beautiful as all others, but they need help to spread their wings.

To me it applies to anyone!

Glad I did something right for a change lol

today's quote

To get up in the morning only to know that you have to face another obstacle takes STRENGTH.
To smile when the only thing you can do is cry takes BRAVERY.
To act happy and laugh when you know that times are at their worst takes COURAGE.
To be joyous when the only good news is the best of the bad news takes SUPPORT.

A little bit of inspiration

Postby pretzel » Wed Jan 11, 2012 5:28 pm

Hi folks,

Its a while since I've been here, it's right what people say, we tend to drop in when we need it most so we do see lots of "it hurts" type posts. I'm not here to say it hurts,it does, that's a given, but I've learned to accept a lot of it and I have some fantastic people around me who understand that no means "not now" it doesn't mean "not ever".

Anyhow, the reason I dropped by was to share this link...

here

It isn't HMS/EDS etc. but the sentiment is the same. RA Guy has on this page written down everything that he has learned about himself and what others have shared with him. I read it and felt inspired and then realised how right he is. Without HMS I wouldn't have learned to stand up for myself quite so effectively, I don't think I would have found OT, which I am now studying, and I wouldn't have realised just how strong a person I am.

Gentle hugs to all.

This is from a fellow bendy over the pond who is a friend on my facebook page (blatant plug) She is probably one of the the most inspirational and upbeat people I have ever come across. this was her status today.

Sometimes u look around and u see all these wonderful things that u wish u could have for urself.....all u need is just one really happy moment and u could get by.... sometimes it hard to see ur worth or importance because u don't feel worthy or important.... and sometimes giving up is all u can think about....but u have to be better so ur kids will be better and u have to stand up and be counted ....and even when ur dying inside u have to just muster up a smile and try with all ur might to keep moving....keep walking....just keep going until u fall or u die....

I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kind support, I don't know what I'd have done if I hadn't found the HMSA

This was written by George Carlin, an American stand-up comedian and writer, who died in 2008. I think it's still very relevant today and worth a read.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete...

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember, to say, ' I love you ' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Ok this is in no way inspirational so will have to count as "other things"

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch it

another non inspirational quote, but guaranteed to make you smile

When you have an 'I Hate My Job day!'
Try this out:
Stop at your pharmacy and go to the Thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson. Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your Doors, draw the curtains and Disconnect the phone so You will not be disturbed.
Change into very comfortable Clothing and sit in your favorite Chair. Open the package and Remove the thermometer.
Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not Become chipped or broken Now the fun part begins.Take out the literature from The box and read it carefully. You will notice that in small Print there is this statement:
"Every Rectal Thermometer Made by Johnson & Johnson Is personally tested And then sanitized." Now, close your eyes and repeat Out loud five times,' I am so glad I do not work in the thermometer Quality control department at Johnson & Johnson.'
HAVE A NICE DAY; AND REMEMBER, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE WITH A JOB THAT IS MORE OF A PAIN IN THE BUTT THAN YOURS!
If you haven't got a smile on your face And laughter in your heart...-Maybe you should go and work For Johnson and Johnson!

I have a inspiration which is not a quote but is a dog.
In February this year we heard about a dog which needed a foster home who could offer TLC to the full because of it getting hit by a car and getting stuck underneath it and its owner ran away from the scene of the accident. The dog has to have the front right leg amputated because of the injury. In the first two weeks we looked after him we decided to keep him because he fitted in well. Over the past few months he has got fitter and fitter until the point he can out race a four legged German Shepard easily.
He enjoys life to the full to the point of forgetting about the missing leg most of the time.
The morale of the story is that even a abandoned three legged dog can be one of the happiest dogs in the world so the point is make the best of what you have got.
Diagnosed in 2009 with HMS and other conditions.
