Swine Flu Vaccination, H1N1, flu jabs in general

I didn't know Tesco were "selling" the swine flu jab! They don't miss a thing do they!! I think they will be offering it free on the NHS to anyone who wants it once they've done us high risk groups so it's worth asking GPs about. I personally have asthma and can honestly say if I get a cold I'm dreadful so flu would be a serious risk for me whereas flu wouldn't run the risk of killing me through my hypermobility problems so I can see why they've done it this way but I know there was definite plans to offer it to all eventually. It's worth getting it done as soon as possible.

Doh the flu jab, not the swine flu one. I know 'every little helps' is their motto but i think swine flu jabs at tesco would be too good to be true lol.

No i meant the normal flu jab. Im still not convinced about the swine flu jab although i know it would be very good to have it and getting swine flu on top of the hms at the moment would put me at deaths door, id like to see a bit more evidence it doesnt turn you into a mutant before i got one.

swine flu vs other flu...

Have a flu jab every year which my employer pays for, I think for them approx £7 per employee is preferable to lost working hours. I have a trendency to pick flu up without even trying so even if they didn't pay I would, normally when flu hits me it hits me hard and generally means around 3-4 weeks off work. When I was signed off in December however I picked up a dose of swine flu, which I hadn't been vaccinated against, and it really was NOTHING compared to the normal stuff, 4 days of feeling like death but well enough to go back to work after a week.

That said if I'd've had the choice of the swine flu jab I'd've had that too.

Hi All,

Yesterday I had my first flu jab (because of asthma) and today I have a bruise on my arm and it's red, hot and swollen around the pucture area.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't been diagnosed with EDS (just hypermobility) but I do have soft velvety skin that sometimes reacts to things (a similar thing occured when I was stung my a wasp last year).

Apparently the swelling should go down after a few days (fingers crossed!).

Flims, not exactly that but I have had that from other vaccinations. From the flu jab, I'm just allergic to the adhesive from the plaster and came out in a lovely round red welt...

Hi all

I think it is quite comon to have a reaction like this to the flu jab, among others. It can also induce flu like symptoms, I wouldn't be tto concerned unless it gets worse or persists.

I reacted like that when i had the flu jab a short while ago.
Keep an eye on it if its really bad you might need to phone or see your GP.

The swelling and redness ended up speading pretty much all over the top upper half of my arm, so I saw my GP on Monday and she said that it was impossible (clinically) to tell whether it was an allergic skin reaction or an infection, so she prescribed me both antibiotics and antihistamines. Things contiuned to get worse yesterday but today the swelling has pretty much gone, leaving a small red patch (around 2-3 inches sqaure) and a bruise just near the injection site.

Hopefull it'll totally clear soon.

...and I guess it's probably nothing to do with hypermobility, but thanks for your comments.

I have finally booked my Flu Jab on Tuesday. It will be first one as last year I got out of having it done. I will make sure I have EpiPens just in case I react badly to the jab and I always have anti-histamines with me because I was told to make sure I carry them from my local hospital because they cant given any as I am allergic Piriton. Also on Monday I am going to Smart Heart Clinic because of my high Cholesterol and Triglycerides problems.

The flu jab went well yesterday no reaction at all. It didn't hurt at all. I didn't feel it go in. I hung around for about 20mins. This morning my right arm is slightly painful and there is a small lump where the injection was.

not sure if its the flu jab or just fluke as I have the runs at the moment. The arm is slight sore still.
