hypermobile, low tone, need advice or help!

Postby sange » Sun Jul 03, 2011 9:52 pm

Hi all
My daughter is hypermobile with low muscle tone, her tone was very low and she didn't walk til 2.5 years and didnt' talk until then either. She is a very calm lovable girl, a fantastic sleeper and loves her 12 hours at night!!!! never any problems until this week. She is almost 4 years of age now.

Last Saturday it started she sleeps for 2 hours and then the screaming and crying starts, its not night terrors as she is wide awake, she doesn't appear to be in any pain and is not afraid, but she is screaming, shouting and there is no stopping her. I believe in my heart she is completely overtired and even though I have napped her during the day its not helping. Yesterday I napped her for an hour and she screamed all night long, she just couldn't sleep and was trying so hard but was crying and screaming. I have taken her little Ellie away from her and told her she will get it back when she sleeps without crying (I feel so bad but am desperate).

Is it possible that she is having a growth spurt and her muscles are over overtime to try to work the extra weight? I have notice her gait more open the last week and so wondered if this is causing her overtiredness.

Would be grateful for any advice anyone can give me, we are on waiting lists for therapist and I have nobody to help or advise me, we are so tired right now and I just want her to be okay again.

Thanks everyone

My son is 11 and he gets like it when he is growing. I have been told to keep him on painkillers to keep them in his system. A warm shower and massage with lavender oil has helped. My son does physio exercise daily and as he is getting stronger it has got less. Hope you can get help soon.

Is is possible it is muscle cramps/pain. It can be hard for children to explain what hurts. My son is almost 5 and can become quite restless in the night after a busy day. We also do a warm bath before bed, massage back, legs, arms. Listening to relaxing cd at bedtime.
Are her bowels ok. We have had tummy issues as well.
Good luck.

Just another thought. Is she eating/drinking ok. My kids have to eat little and often. Plus be encouraged to drink fluids.
Drinking from an open cup is tiring so they tend to use straws. Weather where I am has been warm the past several days so not sure if the same where you are. Lack of fluids can make cramps worse.

Aw thanks girls, she slept last night with paracetemol, so am reckoning she might be having some pain?

Her bowel movements are actually quite good considering how low her tone is, but she is a daily mover and if she goes two days I tend to give her a little something to get her moving but it doesn't happen too often luckily!
I am in Ireland so you can imagine the weather we are having LOL even rainging now !!!!!!!!!

I'll keep a close eye -

Thanks so much

Yet another thought. Could she possibly be having headaches. We have had some of these with my youngest. Was explained to me that headaches can be related to muscle tension in the neck, back area. Have started to do some gentle massage of his neck, shoulder area, back when he is going to bed.
Glad she slept better last night. Lack of sleep is hard going on everyone. We have had our share of broken sleep.
