Childrens major buggy/wheelchair rental

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere where you can hire major buggies or a wheelchair suitable for a five year old?
My son has had his wheelchair referral from our gp and we are waiting for his assesment but its difficult at the moment getting out and about. We also go on holiday in 6 weeks and I'm worried how we are going to manage without something to help him get about. We have no idea when we will reach the top of the list for our wheelchair assessment and could really do with something temporary.
I know you can rent adult chairs but I can't seem to find majors or kiddy chairs. Any help anyone can provide I would be very grateful. We live near York if this would help.

I had exactly this problem a couple of weeks ago, for a friend with a sick child. We got one for him from the Red Cross. Your local orthopedic department may also have some lying about that you could use. If it's for physical problems, a wheelchair is preferable. A major buggy is more designed for children with autism, learning disabilities or ADHD who need a safe space when they're out, but can walk. It doesn't offer much support for their backs and can be uncomfortable if used for many hours (I had one for my autistic son).

But my experience is that the Red Cross are your best bet. They lent my friend a lovely children's wheelchair, for as long as she needs it.
