Hi,

So this may be a weird question but I've always wondered.....

Does anyone have extremely fine hair? I have eds including most things you could include -- hypermobility ibd stretchy skin long fingers tall and skinny pointy face etc etc etc etc and as hair is tissue... I figure it makes sense....

When I say fine I mean -- I have a lot of it thankfully but its incredibly soft just like babies fluffy hair - its like I never got proper adult hair! Just babies!!! Its an absolute nightmare there being so much of it and so fine it knots itself into dreadlocks every day.... To the extent I put in 63 dreadlocks once for a few years so I didn't have to bother brushing it! Its just hair again now though!

:) just curious!!

Yup, me too. The rest of my family have normal hair, but I'm the one with silly fine stuff. I've given up on using hair grips etc, as they just won't stay in. It did tangle badly as a kid, but improved as I grew up, though that could be because I grew it from jaw length to well below the shoulder. It looks ok as it is wavy, which makes it look like it has more volume. I did have a hairdresser once tell me that I didn't really have much hair at all :S

Very fine. Always commented on by friends and hairdressers. Also have 'baby hair' growing at forehead that never gets any longer that people find funny.
Diagnosed late 2010 HMS after years of trying to find out why my body feels like a 90 year old's! Suspected Coeliac Disease - repeat biopsy due November 2011.

I'm the same- but also have a problem with hair dye. Back in November I had my hair dyed - it was meant to be semi permanent and wash out within 4 weeks. I'm still waiting for it to wash out

Hehe seems I'm not the only one! My boyfriend constantly marvels at how soft my hair is. We've taken to referring to it as "down" rather than hair as we don't think it counts as real hair! That and my soft soft skin -- now if this bliddy condition didn't come with all the rest of it - being soft would probably be quite nice.... But we all know, as it goes soft has its downsides when it leaves you on crutches.... just a wee bit too soft methinks!

I have rather soft fine hair, has a tendency to curl when it gets even slightly long  Very soft skin too.

I have extremely fine hair that no-one can do anything with. I've never been able to have ribbons or grips in my hair. All my HEDS relatives have the same super-fine, uncontrollable hair too, so I did wonder.

Talking about thin uncontrollable hair, my mums has always been rather crazy too. She calls it witchy hair

hiya,

i've got 2 sorts of hair- really fine red hairs and much thicker jet black ones so my hair looks really thick and been told by a hairdresser that i've got twice the hair i should do

in winter my hair looks really dark brown, almost black but as soon as the sun starts to get stronger in the spring my red hairs can be seen so my hair varies in colour from an auburn colour to a relatively dark brown colour (with flashes of auburn highlights). but even though i have the thicker hairs the whole lot still feels like silk, tangles up badly (need to brush it every few hours or i get massive matts forming) and i cant keep bobbles, ribbons or any clip that isnt one of the ones that snap shut really tightly on your hair. been told it looks really nice and shiny though, but would be nice for hairbands to stay in without me needing to use a normal rubber band in addition to my hairbands!

i've got the really soft skin too :)

Crazy isnt it!! Never considered my hair part of this. I too have the very soft skin.
Many hairdressers have commented on how much hair I have, I seem to shed a lot too as drainholes full of it & my cream bedroom carpet, especially by the mirror looks like we have a longhaired pet  when it needs a vacuum! (Back probs at the mo so not that often!)
If I dye (darkblond/very light brown to cover the grey...actually thinking about it Im 43 now & started going grey at about 20..anyone else had grey early?) I have to choose about 3 shades lighter by the pic on the box than I want or it goes very dark & seems to take quickly. Also had a few horrendous perms in the past whereby it goes like poodle hair in a very quick time..a few embarrassed hairdressers too, back when curly was fashionable  ( I still have photos which I chuckle at now)
I tend to keep it longer as the weight keeps it less hassle, when its shorter it bulks on top my head & sticks up everywhere in the mornings but i do need to use damaged hair conditioner or it really tangles, & hairclips/pins slide out easy so use ponytailers but even they slide out when freshly washed. I find dry shampoo useful as it makes it a little coarser so they grip a bit better.
Drying it takes ages with a hairdrier so I tend to let it dry naturally & then finish with the drier to style if going somewhere special... not very often as I'm less social now.... another thing??

Yes, I know that feeling. I have a lot of hair but it is very fine. I cant have a hair style as it wont stay in for long. I have my hair quite short because it the hair touches any part of my face my face gets very itchy. I found that dyes seem to take ages to go even the wash in wash out ones stay in the hair for months instead of weeks. Perms use to be fun too as they would go very curly too i was mistaken by someone in a car she thought that they had a white poodle in the back. I found that dyes and perms now burn my skull too much to consider having them. I will get blisters on the skull which last for weeks. i have ezcema on the skull as well so that wouldnt help.

So far I havent gone grey but both of my parents are grey. I am dark blonde but as child I had very blonde hair which changed as I got older. I hate my dark blonde hair as it looks darker than it is. I would love to go lighter but wont take a change.

How odd, i have very fine hair but i have alot of it! I can put styles in it but they fall out very quickly. i also find that hair dye goes much darker and lasts much longer in my hair than anyone elses, and like Itigo, i have very fine very short 'baby hair' growing at the front which never gets any longer and is a different colour to the rest of my hair! I never even thought that my hair could have something to do with HMS!

I too was white blonde until about age 3 & then mid brown with a reddish hue, especially in summer when it lightened.
Also have weird short hairs around my hairline which are mostly the grey ones!! Dye it now so no idea what colour I am naturally, assume it'd be grey!!
Strange how it affects hair aswell.

Not sure if my hair's fine, but the hairdresser says I've enough for 3 people and it has a definate will of its own.
Hair grips/slides fall out, when I had it permed sometimes even the perming curlers fell out.
One lady cut it as for 'normals' then couldn't get the perming curlers to stay in.
It's now 'salt and pepper' not sure about the hair dye.

mine's not terribly fine, although the hairdressers say its not thick I just have a lot of it, but I seem to be losing loads, handfuls at the minute and it seems to be getting worse, or am I just seeing things that are normal and I've not noticed it before so much?!?!
