having head shaved!

Postby poppy » Wed Oct 20, 2010 7:10 pm

i'm having shoulder surgery before christmas and have realised it's going to be impossible for me to wash my long hair which is right down to my bum! so i've decided to have it chopped off and have my head shaved before the op to make life easier for me and to raise money 50% of which will go to funds towards a defibrillator which is for the local area i live in and 50% to the hmsa. i also intend on donating my hair to a charity which makes wigs for children. http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/emmalosingherlonghair

:) I love shaving my hair. Have done it a few times, and would never have properly long hair again, now, I don't think. My version of long seems to be the two ish inches I currently have...

I have to confess I often get tempted to shave all my hair off - so much less hassle! Not sure hubby would be too impressed tho' and people might have difficulty telling us apart! ;)

thanks everyone :) people keep telling me i'm so brave to be getting it done but when i had my leg in a cast i of course couldn't have a bath so i had to get my mum or carer to wash my hair and i ended up with loads of injuries just from getting my hair washed! so i'm just trying to avoid more injuries really

I do think you are very brave!! I have sponsored you Em, have you ever tried the shampoo caps? I used one in hospital - they are brilliant!! It is like a shower cap, you just have to warm it up in the microwave and then massage your hair in it to clean it (your mum could probably help you with it) - It feels lovely as well because it is nice and warm!! You do not need to rinse anything off afterwards, it totally rocks!! http://www.synergyhealthplc.com/product ... o-cap.aspx It is a shame you can't get them on prescription though :( xx

Hi Poppy.
I cut almost 12" of hair off before my shoulder surgery last year (mine wasn't as long as yours) and donated it to a company which makes wigs for children and cancer patients. It made such a difference post-op!
Good luck with the surgery and raising money!
