Have appnt at GOSH, but right Doc?

Postby mobilemum » Mon Mar 01, 2010 12:30 pm

Hi all,

GP agreed to refer my dd to Prof Graham's Clinic at GOSH. The appointment has come through but it says it is Dr E*****'s Rheumatology Clinic. Appointment booking line says this is all part of the HM Clinic. Is this right? I am very keen for DD to see Prof G as I understand he has a lot of experience and particular interest in ballet dancers/gymnasts and the like which is very important in regards to my DD

Modnote: Post moved to GOSH appts section and name redacted, please see forum rules on naming medics.

Hi ya
Yes you are in the right clinic, the Dr whose name the clinics are in is no longer working at GOSH so until they find a replacement for her the clinic name will stay as hers. You really have nothing to worry about all the team members are fabulous and your child will be very well looked after.
It is highly likely you will see Prof G, as he is attending a lot of GOSH appts at the moment. BUt anyway the clinic code is correct for the Hypermobility Clinic.

Hope this helps. When is your appt?

Hope this helps - my son had appt yesterday at Dr E's clinic, the reminder actually said it was an appt with Sue. When we got there we saw a consultant who's name I've forgotten, Prof G, Sue, OT, & 2 visiting docs. I was a bit confused before we got there as to who we'd see, but rest assured you will be with the right people!!

My son was re-referred to clinic as they'd dropped him off the system by mistake, and the appt y'day was as if he's a new patient. It was HUGELY thorough, more so than ever before, and he's got to go back for 2 wk rehab again.

Wish you luck! Hope that helped.

thanks Kay, that was very helpful and reassuring.

We are going on Wednesday 28th April. I had pressed for the appointment through my GP as DD has had various inexplicable sports/gymnastics injuries to shoulders and hips and I was worried that her hypermobility might be a contributory factor. However we saw a peadiatric orthopedic surgeon the other day who (without any prompting from me) concluded that her HM was the problem (actually, he was quite shocked at how hyper mobile she is though he may not see very many) so I feel more confident that I'm not wasting anyone's time.

just come back from a eventful 4 days at GOSH for my daughter appointment, her letter said it was for sue but we saw the rhymatologist, sue, OT and another doctor.
she had bloods taken, booked for 2 weeks rehab as well as having a MRI too looking at other possible causes of her back pain and headache.
she is extreamely hypermobile in her hips shoulders and back especially.
she is also back in 4-6 weeks o see the OT again

Silly question, but is it okay if my DD wears a leotard to her appointment tomorrow? She is getting a bit shy about stripping off to be looked at and feels better about it if she can wear a leo

Hmm. It might make it difficult to see the spine exactly - depends on what kind of back the leotard has. But I'd be tempted to let her wear it and take other underwear for if they want her to strip further?

Don't know how old your daughter is, but I go special underwear shopping before 'strip potenitial' appointments. Have you considered going shopping specifically for stuff that she would feel more comfortable in? I recently bought some really comfortable, very modest 'shorts' style knickers from Peacocks, which combined with a matching cami/strappy top work perfectly for me. If they need to see my torso I can lift the top as far as necessary but I don't feel so exposed as I would in bra and knickers.

Thanks Hannah,

I guess she could wear her gym shorts, which are a bit like hot pants! She is mighty fed up of this having seen 6 docs and 3 physios since November!

I think there may have to be some chocolate involved, especially if she has to have blood tests too. I have got print-offs of all the blood tests she has had recently in the hope that more can be avoided. She has had two sets in the last few months and each time she has come out in a bumpy rash all around the site.

Gym shorts is a good idea - I came back to suggest cycling shorts - which I also sometimes wear under clothes to appointments, only to find you'd thought of it yourself

Bribery is good :)
