I have got the best family ever- serioulsy i am not just saying it- they totally a million and a trillion % rock i would just be lost without them, especially my mum

I live in a lovely house in a really nice town by a river and I have got a really nice lilac bedroom which rocks. It has got lots of fairy lights in my room, and lots of books, and teddies, shelf with sentimential bit and bobs on it and just some bits and bobs, and my computer, desk, an en-suite toilet, oh and i have decorated my door!

~I have got to have the grooviest door! It has a poster on it saying 'my room , my mess' (though i do like to keep it as tidy as poss!), a little thingy saying 'lord if u wont make me skinny please make my friends fat' , a tweenies ballon , a purple doorbell, a winnie the pooh thingy smiling saying 'have a nice day, lots of rainbow sticker and random stickers, also a got a pair of black nickers pinned in the middle of my door saying 'emily rocks' on them (its the new fashion to have nickers on your door im starting a craze!) ) so i LOVE my door! that rocks!!

I will tell u about my loo I like that too that's another possitive (you will prob think i have gone coo-coo but who cares eh? im happy). I just want to try and start a possitve thread to make others happy! he he! Its painted a blue colour and i have got a dolphin theme in there, i have got a dolphin toilet seat, dolphin loo roll holder, dolphin towel rail. I like having a little loo in my room it rocks, its nice and handy .

Another possitve i have got a BRILLIANT G.P., she is really supportive she totally rocks. the other day she said to me 'If I had a magic wand out of all of my patients ,Emily, I would use it on you' i just think that is so lovely! DR HARMAN YOU ROCK!!! :P

The other day i recieved a teddy by mail!!! I have never had one of them before, it said 'fragile teddy in transfer' on the box!! My cousin had sent my a teddy through the post form the internet, inside thier was a messade saying 'just to show there are plenty of people thinking about you xxxx' . It was an octopus, i have names him ollie, he has only got 6 legs, so he fits in very well in this house!! :~).

Another possitive is that i got a distinction on the childcare course that i completed .

Another possitive is that I did lots of placements at a nursery I then asked them for a job and they said 'Yes'. I was really happy. They even agreed for me to work thier on a part time basis (15 and a half hours with a day off in the middle). I was in hosital on the start date though and to be honest have got worse ever since.
But the possitive from this story is
1. That they said 'YES' when i asked if i could have a job.

2. that emma is putting my job on hold for me well she said at least for October/November . I find that a big compliment because they must really like me to be putting the job on hold, otherwise she would have just said 'ohh well im sorry but we really need someone to start! :~)She didnt even want sicknotes she just said take it that i hadnt started yet. :~).

SOOOOO lots of possitives from me, now i want to hear yours!!! :~)

Hi Em - I think this is a great post!

My positive things -
My hubby and my parents are really supportive and incredible. Without them I would be in bits and would never get anywhere!

I've finally got a stable for my horse and spent ages trying to get my own little "tack room" tidy and nice and organise all his rugs and bits on to the long washing line that's hung in there. We've also ordered loads of rubber matting for him (and for me - it will make those rare times that I have to muck out a bit easier) and hung up some toys and things so it's starting to look really nice and "homey".

I've got a nice warm bath running with "choca-mocha" bubble bath :dance: because I fell over in the dining room while trying to be helpful by hanging some washing up and popped my knee :inv: . So choca-mocha bubble bath is my well deserved indulgence for the day! :D

I'm liking these dark evenings coming in - I feel all snuggly and secure in my little house which has all my fave things in it, and after my bath I can be all comfy and warm in my nice four-poster bed with a book and listen to the wind howl around outside.

And my final thing is that I've got a gig in Darlington tomorrow which is going to be horrific :wink: . We're a Pagan "Folk-rock" band and we've been hired as medieval travelling minstrals, so I have to wear a huge and ugly black dress (I personally think the Moscow State Circus wants their big top back...) and dress up my wheelchair in sheepskins and the faux fur blankets that go on the bed in the depth of winter (some how I don't think NHS wheelchairs were around all that time ago), and get pushed around Darlington to sing for most of the afternoon in what could potentially be rather unpleasant weather. So my positive is that it's almost here so I can get it over with and it'll probably not be as bad as I think, but once it's done it's done and I can put the whole embarrassing experience behind me!

Anyone else?

I know my positive is only one thing but with all the negatives that had (and are happening )at the moment this is my BIG positive .

I have 3 wonderful children who make me laugh and love me dearly .

They are also a big positive remembrance and credit to my DH (their Dad)

I love them sooooooooooooo much . :D

What a great post Emily!

I, too, have a lovely family. My husband is amazing the way he looks after me as we also have four lovely boys and three of them are Autistic. Whenever I feel really bad Greg does everything for me, including running my bath and helping me get in it, washing and conditioning my hair etc etc etc. He massages my sore joints every day and says he can even feel which ones have got worse or better - not even my GP or Rheumy can do that! He's always doing little things like buying me chocolates or flowers and makes me nice cups of tea throughout the day, I don't think I could survive without him. He even lets me have a Donny Osmond calendar here next to my PC and bought me a Donny mug for my tea!

Our boys are really well behaved, they make their own beds and tidy up after themselves and they understand that when I'm feeling bad that I sometimes need peace and quiet (sounds impossible with four boys but it's true!)

I'm a big fan of 'girlie' things too, fairy lights and Winnie the Pooh etc but I haven't actually tortured him with those in the bedroom, yet. Although he did buy me a lovely little fairy on a keyring to attach to the new pink mobile phone he bought me!

Well done for putting a lovely post here to bring a smile to everyone's faces Emily and I'm pleased that you have a lovely supportive family.

Emily - this post ROCKS - its nice to read about the real positive things in our lives.

I am happy - a year after we moved in, our garden has come together, we had a new front door installed last Friday and my boyfriends very grown-up new car came last Friday too. If any of you had ever had the chance to see our old front door, you would understand my happiness, it was bloomin awful. Someone in the past had installed a cat flap, then next person had boarded the cat flap over and it had gaps in it and was awful!!!!! So it looks lovely and has made the house look SO different!!! :D

With the new car and new door, I think our neighbours think we have won some money :lol:

I am so happy as well - I love where we live now (lived in hell before :wink: ) and it is so quiet and nice neighbours!!!!

My other positive thing is my good friend, well they are a couple we admire. They both work hard, they had a nice wedding, but within their budget, they bought their first starter home together. They then saved a lot of money before having their first baby, so that while she is off work they can live without struggling. Well they have been looking to buy a two bed house and it would mean them really stretching to the end of their means. But last week her husband finds out his dad won some money on the lottery (in a syndicate) and is giving them some to help them with their next home. He isn't paying the whole thing off, but certainly means they won't struggle financially - they will be ok! And if you knew my friends - it couldn't happen to a nicer couple!!!!! :dance:

It finally proved to me that sometimes good things happen to good people!!!! :party:

I have just read through the above posts and it certainly helps to read cheery news - I remember we had a similar thread before the boards were hacked which was always worth checking in on. Five things or something that made us happy? i can't remember whether it was in here or off topic but I thought it was worth using a little board space so that people who haven't access to that area will see that us hmsers really are a positive bunch of people.

So today my happy thought / others may have phrases or other snippets....

is this ...

I am so proud of my daughter who ousted a school bully by standing up and defending another - who wasn't able. The end result is that the bully is being helped and the bullied has some of her faith in human nature restored.

Well, I couldn't work out where to put this, so it has landed here :)

To understand how big an achievement this is, you will need a little background:
I use a wheelchair outside the house due to major pevis and knee problems plus severe PoTS and balance issues. I also have multi-directional shoulder instability and a year ago was slipping my shoulders out multiple times a day and am in constant pain from it. Consequently my ability to self-propel was very limited. Realistically the only place I could propel without causing major problems for days/weeks afterwards was in a perfectly flat place - like a supermarket.

nearly a year of very hard work and specialist physio input and....

At the weekend, I went out for a 'wheel' in my lightweight sports wheelchair. I went across a concrete carpark with lots of cracks in, along a woodland path that was flat-ish, up a steep slope, over a bridge, round a lake, over some grass, up a hill, over some gravelly sections, up another long hilly bit and back to the car (although I did need help for the last 15m or so of the hilly bit). Total distance probably getting on for a kilometre.
And my arms stayed attached with no long-term annoyance. (yes, they hurt, but they always do so that is no big deal - chronic pain)

A year ago I thought I would never be able to do that kind of thing. Yes, my muscles ached somewhat the next morning and I was exhausted, but the freedom I now have due to the physio that I have done, and continue to do is phenomenal. Yes, I currently use a wheelchair, but I have gone from almost totally relliant on others to being able to go out-and-about under my own steam! - and who knows what I will be able to do in another years time if I keep up with my physio etc.

Hannah that's awesome! I'm pleased I was there to see your achievement as I know how much it means to you. I have to say that without the hard work of physio, I myself would never have dreamt of doing such a walk and the fact that I also did it with just the aid of crutches on Saturday has given me such a boost and proven to me just how crucial daily physio is. It's tough but it makes SUCH a difference!

and :clap: :clap: :clap: for both of you for all the hard work you've done and continue (!!!!) to do!!!!!!

hannah- maybe put a short post with a link to this one in the physio thread- so everyone struggling with physio can see that the right kind of physio done 'all the -' and for quite some time (!!!!!) can really make a difference-

right... I'd better do some physio exercises too :wink: - and yep since seeing the stanmore physio (and doing the exercises most days) my "asleep" little shoulder muscles are waking up too!!! and it's getting easier to once again (like before HMS hit me) actually hold my shoulders where they are supposed to be!

Sometimes I think we all get a bit bogged down in negativity and things we haven't been able to do, when in reality even on the darkest of weeks we all achieve something. That something may well be perceived by Joe Bloggs to be a little thing but to the person who acheived it, it's their perception and their knowledge of how difficult it was to achieve that brings them a sense of satisfaction. :D

Goal setting is one of the most basic motiviational tools there is, but it's also one of the most effective. Even when life gets in the way, to have an aspiration gives a focus upon which we can balance, sometimes precariously, other times with great confidence in achieving that aspiration.

Having EDS/HMS or anything else for that matter means we have to approach tasks differently to others and may complete said tasks in different timescales but it's the making of that attempt that makes us better people.

I have many many things I wish to achieve and many many things I have already achieved. I've decided to set myself a goal which I feel is achievable for me each week. It may only be a little goal to some or indeed mountainous to others but it's something that I need to achieve.

The goal I set for myself last week was to ensure that I took my medication at the right time each and every day and didn't miss any doses. The purpose of setting this goal was to get myself into the habit of taking my medication as directed not in the ad hoc method I had been doing so. I acheived it with the help of my mobile phone alarm and planning ahead.

So I now need to maintain this and not use my forgetfulness or indeed lazyness as an excuse because there's something I can do about it.

My next goal is to increase my physical exercise. :nellie: I've been referred for physio but not heard anything yet. I am the expert on my body so really I shouldn't need to wait for someone else to tell me I need to do some core strengthening exercises or going swimming would do me a world of good. So seeing as though I gift my gym a monthly fee it's about time I started to make it worthwhile and at least do one session in the gym or pool this week. :sheep: The purpose of this is again to form the start of a habit. It will be beneficial to me in the long run and will help to teach me my limits in terms of pacing.

A longer term goal I have is to get a German Shepherd :dog: In order to do this I need to try to be in as much of a good routine as possible, build up my walking from the house to the car, to something a little bit further so I can ensure the dog gets enough daily exercise. I also need to work on strengthening my arm and shoulder muscles so I can walk the dog properly. There are two parks nearby that I can drive to and have lovely flat paths all the way round them so I want to try to build myself up to be able to walk around the whole park with minimal after effects. My mini goals will hopefully build up to me achieving this goal. I don't have any animals in my home at the moment which for me makes my home feel empty!

So enough about me, what about you? What would you like to achieve? Do you have any short term goals or long term goals that you'd like to achieve? Maybe you need some help in setting up some steps to achieve a goal- there's a huge wealth of knowledge contained within the people who visit these boards, maybe someone has an idea of how you can achieve your goal if you do need some inspiration?
