New poetry booklet - When You Hear Hoofbeats

Postby Sue New » Sat Jan 16, 2010 4:52 pm

Hi Everyone,

Well, its been a while, but finally I have my inspiration back and I am going to make a start on collating all the poems I have received so far for the 3rd HMSA Poetry Booklet. The new booklet is going to be called "When you Hear Hoofbeats" and feature a picture of a Zebra on the front. I have 11 poets already lined up for the new volume, but if anyone else would like to have their poems on the theme of living with HMS/EDS featured in the booklet, please e-mail me at poetry@hypermobility.org (please put "HMSA Poems" in the title if you send me an e-mail so I don't confuse it for SPAM).

I didn't get around to completing the project last year as I had so many health problems going on, I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to do it. I apologise to you all for that, but hopefully now I am back on track and my plan is to be able to launch the new booklet at the next HMSA residential weekend.

I will keep those already involved in the project up to date with my progress, and look forward to receiving poems from anyone else who would like to be included.

Take care,

Sue xx

Hi Carla,

I have one poem for you at the moment. Can you please e-mail me all the poems you would like to go in the booklet. I may have to limit the amount of poems per person to 3, as already I have enough to fill up all the pages.

I look forward to getting your poems.

Hi Carla,

The one I have for you at the moment is "A world of my own"

Graham - I may have to limit the amount of poems that each person can contribute, but I will let everyone know as soon as I can.

Take care all,

Hi Everyone,

I have been working on the new poetry booklet again today, and now have the basic manuscript sorted out. I have sent e-mails, PM's etc to those who have submitted their poems requesting anything outstanding (i.e their Intros and Photos).

I think I have enough poems now to go ahead with the project, but if anyone has any last minute submissions, please let me know asap and I may be able to fit your poem/s in.

Dr Brad Tinkle from the USA has agreed to write the Foreword for this booklet and has also written a poem that fits very well with the title of "When you hear hoofbeats". I am also going to approach Prof G to see if he would do the Introduction again as he did us proud last time with his interpretations of our poems.

I am going to try to get the new booklet published in time to be launched at the next HMSA Residential in September, so if those people i have contacted can get back to me as soon as they can I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks,

Sue xx

I'm looking forward to it as well!

No artistic or literary talent myself, but I'm absolutely in awe of those who do have those skills, and Sue, I loved the poem that you posted in the Stanmore thread.
