Trouble with outstanding bills? Help is here!

Postby sallyinlancs » Wed Oct 31, 2007 3:10 pm

As I have described in another thread (see Benefits mistake has put me through hell!), I have suffered real financial hardship since having to give up work owing to disability.

I am very happy to tell that there is real help for people in this sort of situation:

United Utilities Trust Fund
If you are in hardship and unable to pay your water charges, for example due to illness, family crisis or losing a job then you may be able to receive a one-off chance to start again.

The trust fund, which is not part of United Utilities and is managed by independent trustees, is there to help our customers with genuine financial problems. The aim of the fund is to help people and where possible get them back on track financially by providing a grant towards their debt.

In order to be considered for a grant you will need to complete an application form. Your individual circumstances will then be assessed confidentially by a specialist advisor in the Trust Fund.

The trust is specifically there to help customers and offer support and encouragement to manage bills in the future. It is an offer of help to make a significant difference for those customers in severe hardship and unable to pay their bills.

If you think you may qualify and want to be considered for a grant then you can contact the Trust Fund direct on 0845 1791791 or at http://www.uutf.org.uk. Alternatively you can contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau, or Debt Advisor who will help you apply to the trust fund.

If you qualify, they will pay your water bill and up to £250 of other debts or payments for essential items - such as specialised equipment needed because of a disability. They have REALLY helped me out BIG TIME!

Hey sallyinlancs. I have just read your post and taken you're advice with applying for help from UUTF. I didn't know it existed. I will keep you posted. Sam.

I have just got an answer back from UUTF but no luck. It seems I am always in the wrong area! There must be some help out there for people who live in Bath. However, it is well worth anyone applying to UUTF or any other help sites as you never know when you can get help. I have been given advice to apply to debt doctors so I will let you know how it goes again. Sam
