Appts and travel during the freeze

Postby lil_miffy » Fri Jan 08, 2010 2:41 am

I have my first physio and OT appointmet at Chapel Alleton on monday. I'm phoning them in tomoro (friday) to see if its worth travelling down (from teesside to leeds 1 1/2 hours by car).
Has anyone had appointments cancelled in leeds because of the snow and ice?

I've not, but I didn't have any booked!

I know that routine antenatal appointments at local hospitals have been cancelled until further notice. I haven't heard news from the hospital on walk in centres and A&E admissions, but the advice from all the general and consultant clinics held there is to call ahead - presumably because no-one knows until the day whether they'll have the staff in.

I'm with the met office who say if it isn't urgent, reschedule rather than travel and if you must go - call ahead to avoid a wasted trip (I've seen numerous comments from people who've struggled in only to find their appt cancelled).

The trains here are running and a few buses are running a reduced service (the bus company have been using facebook to keep everyone up to date - outstanding effort). The cab firms are taking the brunt of it, I've heard it's hard to get a cab. One friend got out in her wheelchair yesterday but had to use the roads (good job her OH is a weightlifter). The little old lady on the corner went to the shops with her walking frame (took her more than two hours). The best way of getting round near here seems to be quad bike or horse - they're out in force. :)

Not really looking forward to Monday - have an appointment at UCHL with the hand physio. Trains don't seem to be too badly affected around here but it's still an icy 40min walk to the station :(

I've not had any cancelled by Chapel Allerton. I had to cancel on Tues because I couldn't get there but they rescheduled my physio for today and I got there fine and so did my physio :D

But yeah it would definately be worth phoning to check before you set off.

We've decided to cancel ourselves because the roads are so bad between teesside and leeds. There were 5 crashes on the main road just to get to the motorway today so its not worth it at all. Plus its snowed constantly today and supposed to continue to do so tomorrow.
Tried phoning today but only got recorded message so going to phone first thing on monday.

They were very helpful when i was first given the appointments and spent about an hour on the phone with me tying to get both physio and OT appointments on the same day and following each other so i didnt have to wait between appointments. They also let me previosionlly book a couple of dates so i could phone by dad and ask which was best for him (being off work) then i phoned back to let them know which one i wanted. So i think they will be fine with me cancelling becuase of the weather.
