I WON!!
Woohoo!!
I couldnt believe it. When we got there we had been put on the table that was furthest from the stage so said to my parents 'oh well i havent won otherwise they wouldn't make me walk all that way to get the award lol'.
I couldnt believe it when they said my name.
The night itself was great. we were sat with Rachel Gadsden who is parliments very own Artist in Residence who is also disabled and also won the award for best Artist for the 2nd time. We swapped contact details and she is going to send me loads of info on resources and projects i can tap into to get more art work out there and support for me.
I also got to meet Ali Briggs, the Deaf actress from Corranation Street! She was loverly and did a great comedy sketch with her comedy act made up of her, a blind woman and a woman with brittle bones disease.
I got a unique peice of glass art made be a disabled artist specifically for the award and £500 cheque which im going to use to buy a new and good laptop (as i split tea all over mine the day before i left for the awards and its not worked since!). Most of my work is computor based so its essential i have a good laptop thats up to the job so the timing couldnt have been better.
I'v had a bit of a artist drought lately and found it hard to get any work done, mainly becuase of energyu levels and pain which seems to really kill my creativity and urge to work so winning the award and giving me a good kick up the bum to get back on track and get 'arting'. My friend is lending me his laptop till i get a new one so i'm going to spend the next few weeks going over all the basic techniques and learning as much as i can on new techniques.
I have to admit i havent really found my 'identity' yet which means i don't yet have an actual Carrie Stamp in terms of style of 'look' of work and i know it can take years before this happens if at all so I am going to use the next few weeks to experiement with lots of different styles and forms to see if theres something i reallly click with.
I have some ideas of types of art styles i would like to try including collage types where there is loads of stuff going on in one piece as well revisiting my dark and gothic style i had at uni.
I have moved into my apartment now and its 5 mins walk from the art studio i used to go to so im going to go and spend at least one day a week there so im around other artists and in a settting where i can't be distracted. I also bumped into a guy who used to go to the studio who i get on really well with. he has a stall in town which he shares with a couple of other artists where they sell their work and advertise for commissions and i am going to go and sit with him at the stall hopefuly once a week so i can see how the whole business side of things works becuase i would love to get to the point where i could make a regular imcome from my work soon.
Thanks to everyone who voted for me, its becuase of you that i won so big hugs and weepy thank you for taking the time and effort to vote.
I will post photos from the night soon so you can see my posh frock!
