Perhaps it may be an idea to change your camera to something like a high zoom optical compact such as the Canon G10 or the Canon Ixus (which comes in lots of ranges depending on what you want to spend!)

Also, if you are looking for a decent rucksack type back, Greg highly recommends the Lowepro Slingshot. It's carried on the back but can easily be slid round to the front, without removing it, where it can then be opened on the correct angle and it carries loads without tipping anything out! It's so easy to use that I would have one myself only I already have my handbag over my shoulder and I'd probably get tangled up in it lol!!
