Scrapbooking

I have been looking at some of D's photographs over the course of our relationship (it's strange to think that we're only a couple of months away from our first anniversary ) and I'd love to put some of our favourites in a scrapbook. I just don't know where to start!

I remember, as a child, making my own scrapbook from scratch at school, and I cannot for the life of me remember how to make the book and have no idea where to get the materials from. I've had a look at photoalbums in a few shops, but they're all "pocket" albums, so there's no where for me to actually stick odd bits and pieces in (such as keepsakes, etc), write notes and that sort of thing. I keep a lot of odds and ends in my journal (I glue in my favourite birthday cards, love notes, pressed flowers, etc) but I'd like somewhere that I can put things for us both to look back at of the things we have done together.

Does anyone make their own scrapbooks or know of somewhere that I can find useful tips and information about scrapbooking?

im not a scrap booker but know that lots of craft shops sell the bits you would need. when i did it at school i just used to use a big empty book and lots of coloured pens, glitter and cute pictures.

When I did my scrapbook of my first trip to Kenya I bought the scrapbook from WHSmith and it had 32 coloured pages, they came in different sizes and some were ringbound. I don't know if that's what you're looking for. For decorations try a craft shop, but it sounds like you've got your own.

Hi Sez I have seen scrap booking kits in Wilkisons and they are very reasonable, I have bought alot of my card stuff in their and have saved a fortune.

I was on my way to WH Smiths this afternoon, having popped into Wilkinsons and found their whole craft section virtually empty , when I came across The Works. I nipped in there, and one of their front displays was a £25.99 Guess How Much I Love You"scrapbook kit for £6! So I also bought a little pack of embellishments for £1.50 as well. It has a decent box to keep all the bits in, with a lovely expanding album in it, loads of stiff paper for creating pages, plenty of coloured paper, ribbon and various pieces, and I am currently writing up a list of events over the last year to track down photographs from.

We've put together our first page - the cover I can't believe how stupidly excited I am about it!
D picked a lovely photo of us from last weekend (we had several friends from Essex come to visit), which he edited a little and then I cut down into an oval and tore the edges to soften them. We chose a title sticker together, and backed it on pale blue paper and finished the page off with our names written in silver button embellishments.

There is a great shop called 'The Range' they do great crafting stuff and is slightly cheeper that going to HobbyCraft! WE have one in Nottingham the only problem is getting to the shop because it 5-10min walk from the nearest busstop as I dont drive!!
But end up spending lots when we go as a weekend trip with the kids from work as they have a nice cafe as well.

HI - I did a large scrapbook for my brothers 40th birthday last year.

I have a ton of stuff and plan to do more. I am also a consultant for Creative Memories - a scrapbooking company party plan type if business. I haven't placed an order recently as I have been far too preoccupied.

Creative memories stuff is very good and easy to use, but a bit on the expensive side. Worth paying the extra for the ease of the cutting system. Because of the problem with my wrists, I find it difficult to manipulate some of the other systems available.

Scrapbooking is highly addictive but very peaceful and relaxing. I love it but just wish there was more time in the day. If I can help in any way, just let me know.

I'm trying to make a scrap book for stephen. I love doing things like that. Only thing is, I'm not big into the embellishments you can buy. they are so expensive, and they don't really seem to be exactly what I want. I'm more a "start from scratch" kind of girl, I like to create everything I use. All well and good, but it takes forever, and I just don't have the time! I have so many ideas but whenever stephen's asleep I'm usually sitting screaming at my hands because they're killing me, or flaked out on the sofa. Not conducive!

I have a die cutter and quite alot of dies, many are suitable for kids designs-give me a yell if there is something in particular you are after and I'll cut you some and pop them in the post

Oh, a scrapbooking thread - great!

I started making one for our 25th anniversary a few years ago. Allow plenty of time as you can get carried away with it. I use some shop bought embellishments (ebay is good for craft stuff) but also make my own.

One page I did was entitled "So many bars and so little time..." It was a double page spread and showed pics of me and Dave in bars around the world. I printed off little pics of beer, gin and tonic and neon signs and stuck them around the pages with sticky pads to raise them.

Another pages was "It started with a brick". That layout showed the pub where Dave and I met. The pub was eventually demolished so we returned and got a brick from it.... I got brick backing paper to put everything on, took a pic of the brick and made it into a tent card shape. When you lifted the brick up there was a pic of Dave and I outside the pub.

Even though the pages go into the plastic pockets you can still put embellishments on (such as bottle tops) which stand out. Just cut the page down a couple of mills to so it doesn't bend.

It took me a while to get used to the terminology. Matting, journaling etc. Just google scrapbooking and freebies and you'll come across tons of stuff, usually from the USA. My "style" is nostalgia and collageing.

My mum died 10 years ago and dad has just gone into a care facility for severe Alzheimers disease. I'm making 2 identical scrapbooks side by side for my bro and sis with all of our old family pictures of happier times. Took me a month to scan them all!

I'll post some shots when I'm back home tomorrow. If there's anything I can specifically help with just drop me a PM.
