Most Bizarre Injuries You've Got...

Postby Tabi » Mon Dec 01, 2008 8:10 pm

As above, really!!

What're the most bizarre injuries you've sustained through EDS/HMS?

I think mine was getting out of bed in the early hours, while still half asleep, with a dislocated hip. Cue falling head first into my lumpy panelled bathroom door (it's next to my bed!), and waking up in the morning thinking "why've I got a huge lump on my forehead?"

OH had to explain what I'd done... oops!

Because of my stance (hips/pelvis forward) I tend to lean on things such as work surfaces etc. A few years ago during the summer, I was wearing shorts and a cropped top as I had been sunbathing when I decided to start cooking dinner. As usual, I leaned forward slightly and burned my tummy on the cooker! It blistered quite badly and I couldn't wear trousers or jeans for ages lol!!

Pulling something in my back reaching for a towel in the airing cupboard and promptly fainting...on two completely seperate occasions, years apart :S or could it be slipping a vertebrae turning the stereo off? Dislocating wrist for the first time opening a door! Or the most recent of the "probable compression fractures" in my spine from...nothing :wall:

I once dislocated my shoulder whilst my hubby was driving us to work. The song "Midnight Train to Georgia" was playing on the radio and I decided to do the "woo-woo" move (as if I was the train driver blowing the horn). Try explaining that one in A&E  (luckily I was able to relocate the joint myself though - phew).

Having a night terror whilst pregnant that resulted in me propelling myself out of bed at speed, dislocating stuff as I went. Cut to picture of enormous em in the corner of the bedroom, shaking and cowering away from something that did not exist, waking myself up with screams of terror that gradually morphed into sobs of pain. Try explaining that one to your boss the next morning!

Also breaking my left foot on two occasions for no apparent reason.

I once badly dislocated my left shoulder pulling up my pants and ended up in the hospital having it reduced under anaesthetic. You can imagine the reaction I got explaining that one! :shifty:

I've also dislocated knees and hips whilst doing that extreme sport - watching TV

I damaged my knee on an ironing board. It is still swollen 2yrs 3months later.

Well the ironing board was infront of the front room window which was open, but instead of moving it out the way to close the window, I put my left knee on it as I jumped up to reach the window with my right arm. Well ironing boards don't hold your weight! My right leg got trapped in the ironing board, I landed full weight on the left knee on the ironing board as hit collapsed to the ground (hence the problem), I hit my chin on the windowsill and knocked myself out. Woke up on the floor in agony and crawled to the freezer to get out ice packs and place on knee, calf and chin.

Perhaps not the most extreme injury, but I tore a muscle in my neck ... brushing my hair. Another for the list of "try explaining that to the boss", expecially as I'd only worked there a month

Also, doing 'something' to my ankle on a trampoline. At the time it was either a break, fracture, sprain, strain, dislocation, tendon, or ligament injury; a couple of years later it was on my notes as a sprain; knowing what I know now, it was probably a sublux

What about having your SIJs subluxed, a few fingers strained and ribs killed......by a spider.

Yes. this really happened.

it tried to escape. but a completely unexplained sudden rise in local atmospheric pressure had catastrophic consequences for it.

 great pics Hannah, I had to be rescued from one (we get huge mutant's up here, we think it's something to do with the distillery across the road) once while on the loo  Fortunately it was my now ex hubby who did it.

Hannah that is fantastic...

i can relate to the hair brushing! I subluxed my shoulder when brushing it.

Also at a most inconvenient time I had to ask for hubby to ermm stop as my hip was slipping

The worst is turning over in bed and then the hip goes! :(

My god you're all awesome!
Hannah, I love your drawings - you should publish them!
Donna, you're not alone - nothing is guaranteed to put a man off like the cry of "oh ow ow ow my hip just subluxed can we stop??"
I managed a new one just now - I've been at a friend's having my hair done, and when I got home (wanting to show it off) I did the flicky hair thing... subluxed neck, dizzy spell, and time in a heap on the floor. Whoops!
