Yep, me too with the red and sweaty face
I also get red and blotchy when I get out of the shower and it lasts for ages. My skin is very see through and pale so I always put it down to that :S

In addition to having thin skin, this can also be caused by high histamine levels, as histamine is released during exercise to promote increased flow of fluid into muscle and connective tissues to aid repair of any damage incurred. We incur more damage through having hypermobile joints.

I used to get a very deep red face from exercising, but no longer do since I started eating a low-histamine diet, and I switched to doing interval training as opposed to constant high-level cardio exercise.

I found my beetroot face very annoying, as people would automatically assume it was a symptom of being very unfit and accuse me of such, when that was patently untrue.

hiya,

i think the histamines may have been making my face redder- i discovered that i have an allergy to fungal and yeast spores and starting taking anti-histamines daily and my face doesnt get as red when i exercise (unless i get REALLY hot but i expect most people get a red face when they're very hot  ). i also avoid all forms of wheat and wheat derivatives as i'm allergic to wheat, and i've noticed if i crack and eat some then i do get very itchy and prone to a red face when i'm warm.

i've also discovered that i have PoTS which may be influencing how red my face gets as it makes me very heat intolerant so i probably get far hotter than i realise as i dont feel it properly, until i'm absolutely boiling... but i dont get anywhere near as red as i used to get when i posted in this thread in 2008 (cant believe how fast time is going- it feels like only a few months since i posted that one and its been almost 4years!! wow!  )

Hi Fiona-Jane

Interesting. Sounds like we have quite a few things in common.

I've been diagnosed with an intolerance to yeast and mold. If the NHS allergy tests I had done are to be reliable, it turns out that this is due to histamine intolerance rather than an allergy.

I think I have POTS too as I have several symptoms of autonomic dysfunction. I also do better on a gluten-free diet. In fact since I've been wholegrain-free a lot of symptoms have improved. I think this is down to the high levels of molds, lectins (gluten) and anti-nutrients such as phytic acid in wholegrains. I am fine eating white rice as this is low in anti-nutrients.

Anyway, glad to hear that some of your symptoms have improved.
