I know this is easier said than done, but one thing that has really helped me is cutting right down on what I ask of my body. learning its limits and then building up from really low levels of anything (which was all I could cope with) helped. But I don't know how much this would help any one else.

I hope you find something to improve it.

I can get absolutely exhausted doing nothing. It seems to have nothing to do with whatever i do, i just wake up feeling barely alive.

Yep..i know that feeling too, sometimes all the pacing in the world doesnt matter because the fatigue just suddenly wipes me out. Its also one of those things that I can predict if doing a new activity but also appears for absolutely no reason at all, worse thing is how long it lasts..can bea few days or weeks. :x

I had the 'hit by a bus' fatigue feeling continuously! for quite some years.
slept 12-18hrs per 24- and still never felt awake-guess it was chronic fatigue (poss c f syndrome) - but yeahhhh! somehow got rid of it/ or it just disappeared some years ago- now it only hits me v v v occasionally but yep sometimes 'without any reason'- (the hit by a bus pain happens far more frequently, but usually a lot milder than it used to)

things I'd changed:
most important- what hannah said ! - pace pace and pace again- building up activity levels that slowly that you actually dont notice the building up- you need the patience of an ox...(is that the right animal?)

better sleep hygiene- like no normal cuppa in eve, chamomile (or other non stimulating herbal) tea instead,
do some muscle relaxation in bed

a memory foam mattress! (if I sleep anywhere hardish- 'hit by bus pain' goes nuts!!!- air mattresses however arent too bad)

trying to do some body and mind 'exercises' every day- so that you actually are 'tired'- but again too much of either, too much of any kind of stimulation... and I'm like 'on speed' and cant stop even if I hurt like a dog already- and consequences CAN (but strangely dont always) last for days/weeks...

and doing too little- also raises pain levels and I think can increase tiredness

it's a v v v v v v v v v v v v v difficult balancing act!

and of course... the c f might have just 'run its course' and all I tried to help myself might have done diddly
sigh...

I haven't had the feeling so much lately until yesterday, I can't believe how bad I feel without having some kind of 'illness' as such! I am soooo tired and aching, especially in my neck and shoulders. I have also been really cold and can't get warm despite going back to bed for a couple of hours today. I just feel wiped out and can't bring myself to do anything, poor Greg has had to do everything today, seeing to the boys as well as me :S I need new batteries!!

My "hit by a bus"iness has got a lot better since I've been regularly taking the amitriptyline and getting a decent nights sleep, but after a very busy day, even of shopping or taking my sister to Brownies I do still feel it. I was only diagnosed with HMS when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia so I have always put it down to the CFS aspect, but it's probably to do with dragging my wibbley joints about all day and keeping them in check too. And I've discovered that "powering on" does NOT help.

I have this also! and its so frustrating, simple things take it out of you. Im blessed with quite well-behaved and understanding kids that usually will allow me that time to rest, but do feel bad that I dont have the energy to do things that I would either like to do with them or just need doing.

I have been feeling ill for about 4 weeks, tired, deppressed, headaches, very painful shoulder and all my joints aching. So hit by a bus sums it up. Only just realising fatigue is a symptom of HMS. I tried amiltryptiline (sp?) but it just makes me feel foggy brained.

Hugs to everyone feeling the same.

I still think I may have CFS but don't want to mention it to my GP because they are new to me and are all middle-aged (or older) so I would imagine they are non-believers of things like this. (Remember how some reacted to the so-called 'yuppie flu'?). I've had ESR tests for Fibromyalgia but they came back normal - I feel anything BUT normal most days!

I must say, i haven't been hit by a bus in quite a while. I'm a bit more active than i used to be, which i think helps. I also get plenty of sleep which i think is the main difference. I'm lucky in that OH works from home 4 days a week so i don't have to get up for DD. I also go to bed at about 9pm, although i d read for 30 minutes or so. I know it's harder if you work but try and get all the sleep you can, it really seems to make a difference.

Hayley as far as I know FM won't show up on tests, they tested me for everything under the sun (and beyond) before my diagnosis. They look for tender spots over your body and generally poke and prod you to see if you say 'oww'. From what I've seen it's judged by the doctor you see and their opinion. Sometimes it's hard to tell which pains are HMS and which are FM but I know it's FM when it hurts to even brush a finger against my back!

Although...CFS is also a side effect of HMS! Oh what a great bunch we are!

Someone must have put my house on the bus route, those buses are coming on a regular basis now.

I am kind of sick to my stomach so I don't want to take pain medicine but I need it or I can't lie down. I hope the bus moves along pretty soon. I want to get back to my version of normal. Even my fingers and toes are super sore lately, and they usually don't bother me too much. I wonder if I am getting sick with a virus or something, but so far it is just the really upset stomach and the all over pain.

Paw - I think I am the next stop along from you on the route.

I also feel sick - not sure if it is my meds, my pain, my exhuastion or a virus. But yeah - need to take pain meds if I have any chance of falling asleep - but I am that knackered you would think there was no problem falling asleep, as nearly asleep all day
