Peroneal tendon surgery

Postby Louise » Fri May 18, 2012 11:03 pm

Hey.

story is i fractured my ankle and was bunged in a cast for a few weeks to heal, cast took off and we saw my peroneal tendon subluxing very painfully and a month after the cast was off my ankle bones keep moving around inside, i have to crunch them back to place but the pain is getting bad now so they are looking at surgery to repair the peroneal. my worry is tho with being a bendy what are the chances of success from surgery. im all for it if it works, i just want the pain to go and be on the path to mending.
anyone had this done? :bye:

I had a peroneal tendon repair, before I was diagnosed with HMS. The surgery was a success on the tendon itself but it healed very badly and after over a year I still have chronic inflammation. Also the tendon still slips over the bone. I had 6 longitude tears in one of the peroneal tendon and it was fused to the one parallel to it. Now with the diagnosis of HMS the surgery was actually contraindicated. As of right now I'm wearing a cast to see if this will stop the inflammation and give the tendons a change to heal!

Yeah my cast didn't help. My podiatrist is officially out of ideas on how to help me. My PCM as well. So I'm kind of stuck too.
I can't take pain meds, as I am allergic to the fillers in pill and strong pain medication is not available in liquid.
Keep me updated on how your heeling goes.

Oramorph is available as are patches.

I had three peroneal repairs, the last one involved a bone flap to secure the tendon and this has been really succesful. I would recommend talking to a specialist surgeon such as ian winson in bristol. He looks like a friendly walrus but is brilliant.

Hiya

oramorph is available as a liquid and there are various strong pain med patches. There are also various injectable pain meds, so plenty of other options for strong pain meds even if you are allergic to tablet fillers. ALso, different companies use different filers so if it worth trying to identofy exactly what it is you can't take.
