Zips - genius! I've lost count of the number of times if struggled to try and get a support on properly. I mean, seriously, do they not think about the fact that you have to put them on one-handed when they design them?? Anywho, might give those a try - thanks everyone!

For the person with the thumb issues - this brace is awesome if rather pricy. Try and get referred to an OT at the hospital and get them to supply it for you.

Ah, I'm not the only one. I do this every time I get into bed and then my wrists start to hurt and I have to remember to straighten them out before I go to sleep. Yet every night when I first get into bed I do it again! I don't have bendy wrists as such (can't do the thumb to arm thing but have strained them both in the past and ended up with numb patches on my arms as a result.

Hi
What would you suggest I have carpal tunnel and Cubital tunnel syndrome. My elbows and wrists are very painful most of the time. What splints or braces would you sugguest as its getting very annoying not getting much sleep. I am waiting for an appointment to see a specialist to do nerve condction tests and hopefully they will help as I cant go on like this.

I am in pain all day and also at night I get woken up by my hands going tinglerly and then hurt. This happens so often at night I am only getting about 90minutes and then I wake and then get back to sleep for another 90minutes. I already get up at upto 3 times a night to go to the toilet. I am getting very tired during the day due lack of sleep during the night. I am still having a nap during the day because of the fatigue.

Hi Dee,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Active-Backs-Elasticated-Support-arthritis/dp/B007OA76OC/ref=pd_sim_sg_4

I use these, but I have taken the metal support out as just the support itself works for me.

ideally you need to be fitted by an orthotist who may even make some, like they did mine.

With mine they need to be tightened at night by my partner otherwise they dont stop me turning my forearms in the night. Mine are for wrists and elbows and it was a nightmare having them made...it involved three members of staff! one each to help hold my arms in position whilst I was wrapped in plaster of parris!

Always see an orthotist if you can because they can make a huge difference! :D

Wrist Splint - new to this!

Postby Choplet2 » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:40 pm

Hello,

I am new to this forum but was advised to ask you guys about wrist splints. Among other parts my wrists are hypermobile and my right one (although I'm left handed) has become painful which is worse after typing a lot. GP has said it is tendonitis and I need a support brace which I got and was made by Trulife but it has a metal bar down the middle and makes it really hard to type or to drive and is quite uncomfortable. Can anyone suggest one that is better as there are so many on different websites it is hard to know which type is best! I need it supported and to help me keep it in the right position but still need to function!

I would recommend if you can get to see an OT s there are thousands of types out there. I have used Otto Bock ones which were good so that may be a direction to look in. I have just had to go onto custom moulded splints due to my hands getting worse, I hope your can be sabilised so they seve you longer.

a question, my new moulded splints are tighter than my old one and the fingerless gloves I used to use are too thick as a liner. Does anyone know where I can get long fingerless gloves either in cotton or the like, about the thickeness of Oedemer gloves?

Hi all I was given some wrist supports by the Orthotics dept, (The rumi's sent me to them) They are black with double metal braced design, they are called Bioskin and also go by the name 'cock-up wrist skin' (sorry that is it's offical name) they are latex and neoprene free and you can easy remove the metal plates, I also have buddy loops for my fingers. The lady who I saw there had a few big books of types of splints and devices, I thought the only ones were those horrid browny type that were so uncomfortable to me I resisted going back to be assessed again. I can't have any metal touching my skin as i get a reaction.

weak wrist on right hand

Postby yawn » Sat Dec 15, 2012 12:50 pm

Hi, Im new to hypermobility, even though Ive had it since birth. Just diagnosed. Recently discovered my right wrist and hand extends further than usual and its so painful. I tend to bend it during sleep then get woken up with the pain. Used to sleep with both my hands pointing towards my arm downwards. My hands can touch my wrist! It now feels like burning sharp pain as if something has moved well out of its normal range, whereas in the past I didnt get so much pain, however I do now. Therefore feel I need some kind of splint whilst sleeping because I tend to do such actions in my sleep. Also my right hand feels extra weak like I cannot hold anything, is that normal?

My question is: do I firstly see gp or do you guys tend to buy splints by yourself?

bren its best to try the gp first as once the gp knows you are buying splints they are less likly to send you to orthotics.
You want you gp to refer you to an OT: occupational therapist.
Then then to do upper half and Orthotics or Surgical Appliances do bottom half.
I feel like a bowl of Rice Cripsies!! I'm snap, crackling, popping everywhere!

Hi, I have just been dx with carpal tunnel & cubital tunnel syndromes in both arms, the hospital have giving me wrist splints to wear for which I am having to wear tubigrip underneth as they make my hans sweat & rather red. For the cubital tunnel they told me to wrap a towel around my arms & tape it in place but this is making me hot, should I buy some elbow splints or wait to see hand OTs via gp? perhaps someone can help me as it means I am not getting much sleep, oh has suggested he gets some horse bandages!!! as that is what he used to use to help injured horses & they are softer than a crepe bandage but I already feel like a mummy so dont want that
