I stopped growing when I was 10 and one of the tallest in my class. So now at 5 foot 1 I am quite short. I'm still waiting for my growth spurt everyone told me I would have. Mind you I'm still waiting to grow out of my growing pains as I was also told/conned. I have grown half an inch recently by improving my scoliosis. How can I get my overdue growth spurt?
Fiona-Jane please PM me how you get on with car seats. They are all far too deep for me and slouching cripples me/is not an option.

I had an early-ish onset of puberty at 8 years old and was 5'6" by the time I was 10 or 11. I also had size 6 feet then. I'm now 29, measure 5'4" and a bit and have size 4.5 feet
Girls generally have a single growth spurt towards the beginning of puberty and tend to shoot up quite quickly then settle down, so it's not uncommon for girls to be done growing by 14 (especially now as more girls are having puberty earlier). Whereas boys tend to have several growth spurts from the onset of puberty right through to the end of their pubescent years.
The average height for women in the UK is apparantly 5' 4"

I hit 6' at my tallest and now struggle to hit 5'10

I'm quite hunched over though so I probably have scope for improvement...

Exercise and stretching can make you taller, and a sedentary lifestyle and a few other factors can make you shorter. I fell down the stairs (a whole flight on my bum - not good for the coccyx) a few years ago, which caused me to loose about an inch.
My mum was a fitness instructor and managed to gain an inch and a half through lots of exercise (up to a grand total of 5' 1.5")

Yep, I stopped growing at 13/14 and made it to a whopping 5' 4" too!!

I don't know if it's HMS related but both my brothers are tall, my Mum had a good few inches on me and my Dad's tall too. My brothers used to tell me I was adopted because of that and I'm the only one with red hair!!

I thought that was about the normal age for girls to stop growing though.
Officially diagnosed with HMS and Fibro 2010 after 6 years of problems.

Amy's coming up 15 and still growing, although it has slowed down a lot recently (growing 3" in 2 months when she was about 11-12 was the start of her problems and really isn't to be recommended!). She's now 5ft 7" (Im 5ft 5 1/2" and her Dad's 6ft) and we are hoping she won't grow too much more!!
Amy officially diagnosed HM 25.09.08 - no Mr GP it's not all in her head!!!!

13/14 was the end for my height, too. Was 62 lbs. when starting sixth grade and 113 or 120 when finishing eighth. Now I'm usually 122-124 w/ something of a narrow frame. Size 8 shoe (USA size).
5' 3.5". smallest in family, but we're almost all short.
Grew up wanting to be short! Was disappointed when passed 5'00" grandma against Dr.'s expectations (prediction when i was a child due to my short legs i still have)

When i was younger i was one of the tallest in my class, got to secondary school so around 11 years, and i was one of the smallest in the year this didn't change as by the time we got to year 11, my best friend and myself were the smallest. I've been around the same heigh of 5"0/5"1 since i was about 15, my brother on the other hand is 13 and he is around 5"7 so he towers above me, im unsure which one of us has the height problem as he can't stop growing and i just can't grow and now im 19 there isn't much hope for me lol

I don't remember when I stopped growing, but was about 5'7" at my tallest. However, apparently I'm shrinking at age 28. The last MRI I had on my neck showed hieght loss.
Is the shrinking related to HMS/EDS? (I was recently diagnosed with EDS III, which was a switch from the 'benign' joint HMS). Has anyone else experienced this?

Height loss can be a result of osteoporosis, so you should have this checked out. I think Fiona-Jane mentioned that she has very large discs in her spine and these can squish or un-squish to change her height quite a lot.

Thanks nemonie
I asked my nuerologist about the shrinking, and she said "everybody shrinks".
She wasn't concerned about the height loss or pins/needles/numbness that I have as there was no impingement apparent on the MRI. Funny part is that she sent me back to the PCM who had sent me to her in the first place. I have a new physical medicine/rehabilitation doctor now; I'll see if he can take a look at it.

This happened to me too. Gorwing up I was always the second-tallest kid in class and the doctors expected me to get to 5'6 or even 5'8......and then when I hit puberty at age 11, I stopped growing. Instead of having a growth spurt at puberty, I just stopped. Several years later I had a late growth spurt and gained an inch in height...leaving me at 5'2, which is shorter than both of my parents. No explanation has ever been given. It took me years to fully come to terms with it but I eventually did.
31 years old, with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, probably type II
