I don't find it as painful as 'normal' cramp so you may be right :) (maybe it's just easier to get used to? I definitely have messed-up sensation in my feet so might be that too)

I got cramp in my calf muscle when I got in from work at 5 and it's still not gone nearly 2 hours later :wall:

Speaking of toes, up until recently I've not even done as much as sublux my toes, yet in the past few weeks I have dislocated both my big toe on the right foot and the little toe on the left foot, and both while in bed. :S I have no idea why this had suddenly started. Was able to put both back in myself, but it's a little disconcerting, especially as I'm usually more of a subluxer than a dislocater. :o

Ooh this is an old thread to revisit! I have hideous feet; flatter than flat feet, claw hammer toes on all but my big toes, teeny tiny little toes that curl under, big toes that dislocate & have to be pushed back in, purple most of the time because of poor circulation etc etc... Usually they don't bother me & are relatively useful as they are pretty prehensile . Lately I've been getting really painful patches on my 3 littlest toes & on the pads of my big toes though; not hard like corns but really red, painful & swollen.... I've been wearing crocs to avoid rubbing them but it doesn't help so I think I need to do something about them. I'm loathe to go to my GP though as I feel I'm constantly there but needs must!! I think it's because my hip & knee problems mean I walk on the outside edges of my feet, can't make myself walk properly because my knee or hip will give way, catch 22!

Are foot problems a thing for all areas of HMS or just a particular type?! Still waiting for a formal diagnosis you see!

Couple of years on since I last posted on this thread and my problems with my toes are worse than back then. All my toes curl under now and are very painful. Nobody I have seen has come up with anything that can help with this. When I put any weight on my feet I get sharp pain in my toes.

I can move my big toes independantly of the others, and can spread my toes sideways. Freaks people out when I sit doing it.
I have what I call claustophobic fingers and toes, I hate anything thoughing them, even eachother. So i often sit barefoot with my toes spread. They can't work out how I can move my toes apart so far.

Flexibility does come with a downside though, often sublux them. Only recently learnt how to crack them back into place. Spent years just accepting that for a week or 2 walking would be agony whenever a toe goes. So glad I worked out how to sort them.

I just realised reading this thread that something goes funny with my toes, especially the big ones, sometimes. Never really thought about it before (how many things do we accept as normal because they've always been that way!) I'm not sure exactly what it is, maybe just a tendon or ligament out of place but i know they sort of lock sometimes and it hurts and I have to wiggle them straight away until they click.
I think they (or one of them) sometimes sublux too, that's more of a clunk to get it back in place than a click (if you know what I mean, sure most will!). That may explain why, when I had an xray of that toe last year, due to a possible dislocation that turned out not to be they found an arthritic spur that they seemed quite surprised by.
I also used to get this thing where if I wore heels (used to wear them all day every day for years, not any more!) I would get a bone out of place further down my foot, it would feel like it was sort of sticking out the bottom of my foot and I would have to bend the joint with my hand to get it to clunk back into place. And here I was thinking I haven't had many subluxations, just realising some of the things that may have been one!

Ask my little brother - when we were little, I used to get into trouble for pinching him! Also, I can't count the times that I have dislocated one of my toes.

i lost count with the times my toes dislocate. it hurts. it happened in physio once the physios jaw just dropped  :bye:

I finally got a reason for my curly toes! My toes have always curled down, and my mom used to say it was from her hanging me upsidedown on the washing line when i was little :P
Apparently it is because I tend to use them to "hold on" when I stand and walk, because EDS messes with your proprioception, and thus balance. Being a dancer, I always thought I had wonderful balance. The chiro showed me that I have little to NO balance, if I close my eyes and take away my visual markers!

yep I got "good balance" with eyes open or with loud music/sound waves to help orient myself- eyes close and no sound...no balance
and yep I curl/hold on with my toes too

I'm the same: curly toes, bad balance, wobbly walking, picking things up with my feet - the lot!
