I use a prescription emollient called Dermol 500 lotion. You can use it instead of shower gel or just rub it into dry skin. It is for infected eczema, but my 'eczema' (which is probably actually psoriasis) was getting infected so often, my GP now prescribes Dermol to me routinely, as a preventative. You can buy it over the counter, but it costs an absolute fortune.

I use it as my main moisturiser as it helps my acne. I'm allergic to lots of other skin creams, even E45 and other creams for skin problems, but weirdly I'm not allergic to this.

AnnaH it could be because E45 contains lanolin. That's one of the ones i'm allergic to. Well, it used to contain lanolin, haven't used it for so many years because i had a reaction to it, but might be worth while checking the others your allergic to for lanolin. My daughter has psoriasis too, although there's no link to HMS (so I'm told but I hear something new regarding it everyday), she's just had 2 weeks of tar treatment in hospital and is continuing it at home. The moisturisers the hospital have given her this time seem to be really good.

On the bruising front, she's still got a bruised face from being at the dentist, lovely yellow colour now. And bruised from inside of the elbow rather badly after getting her implant done :wall:

She's also noticed that her jaw has been sore since she was at the dentist, not sure whether it may have popped when he was working in it or some infection left, so she's back at the dentist on Friday. Might need to give her a piggy back upstairs though with her knee being as bad as it is :wall:

Have just checked the tube of E45 in my bag, and yup, still contains lanolin.

Another thing that's ace for eczema is salcurra spray. It sounds weird but is awesome and smells yummy too. Google it.

I use eumocream which doesnt seem to have lanolin in it, have read the ingreadiants list and its not on there, I use it at night before bed to allow it to soak in overnight, I mostly have problems with my hands, e45 was a big problem for me and made my skin very sore and red neutrogena also had the same affect. Have used eumocream for years now.

The lanolin thing is good to know, I'm same with e45. I've tried an aloe vera gel which seems to help with cuts, for them heal quicker. Recently walked into the dishwasher door & scratched a big line down the back of my leg though don'y know how, which now looks as though someones tried to saw my leg off & left with two huge rough edged welts. My scars all go brown now too, any ideas?
diagnosed jan 11 HMS, also carpal & cubital tunnel, IBS, raynauds, low blood pressure, migraines with aura.

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but I'll ask anyway!

Sometimes when I have particularly bad muscle pains (especially in my arms) I get weird red rashed around the affect area... They're quite blotchy and light red; I was wondering if anyone else got anything like this and if they knew what it was?

I also sometimes get really bright red marks around my joints (especially in between my fingers) and it doesn't go away for ages. It looks very bright and very sore, even though they don't always hurt particularly much. Does anybody get this or know what this is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

HI Just to add my penny in here I've been prescribed Dermol for a good few months now and it really helps with the day to day stuff and as a moisturiser its fantastic but I still managed to pick up an infection in one of the ingrown hairs/pressure sores on my legs (ongoing problem I get ingrown hairs a lot! they make little spots they rub and the hair inside the spot rubs it from the inside this is all under my ankle braces which I wear pretty much daily, now aslong as I'm careful and antiseptic most of the time its managable but not very pretty) I get flare ups of this and the Nurse I saw last time (who is fantastic!) prescribed a cream called DUAC (antibiotic with peroxide etc) DUAC it kills the infection and seems to help dry out the septic areas so they heal faster, the diference in my legs was incredible after a week! now I know it won't suit everyone but on the off chance its the miracle cream you've all been waiting for I thought I'd share :D

Loose skin newbie question

Postby balot » Wed Oct 17, 2012 10:51 pm

Hey,

I was only diagnosed with hypermobility a few days ago and there is so much I have yet to understand about it so excuse me if this is a newbie question.

I've kind of always felt like I've had a loose skin and that I scar/bruise easily, but my diagnoses has really brought it into focus. This is kind of a vain worry... but I'm 22 now, will my skin look saggy as I age? Will it make wrinkles more visible, etc? What can I do to prevent this?

Hi and welcome if I haven't said it before, take a look at your family? who did you inherit your HMS from and are they wrinkly? if the answer is yes then you probably will be too and as far as I'm aware there isn't much you can do about it besides look after your skin and keep it healthy, if its any consolation I think a fair few of us are going to be wrinkly aswell?

hi balot,
my feeling re trying to avoid wrinkling is... the same basic rules than for normies may apply-
my mum ( inherited bendyness from her) who has never smoked, has practically always stayed out of direct strong sun, has at the grand age of 86 less wrinkles than me (smoker and used to be sun worshipper) at 53

though, (excuses, excuses  ) my skin has always been thinner than hers and my hands looked "old" since late teens.

but ...until my mid-late 40 s I did look younger than I was, at least that s what people used to tell me  but yep, "abuse" will catch up sooner or later...

I have no idea who I got HMS from, neither of my parents have it and my mom doesn't have any family. I suspect maybe from an aunt on my dad's side, but I'm not close enough with her to ask.

Has anyone had collagen injections?

Hi, I have a question about bruising - a few times lately I have noticed a love bite-type rash occurring seemingly at random. I had one on my earlobes a couple of times and today I noticed one (a few cm in diameter) on my thigh. I looked it up and it seems to be something called 'petechiae'. I was wondering if this was a type of bruise and whether HMS/EDS can make it more likely. As far as I can remember I have not injured myself but I might have scratched the skin.

If anyone can shed any light I'd be really grateful!!

I find my skin does this when I've scratched myself. Not sure if this helps x
