Staying signed in!!

Postby sidsaracer » Mon Feb 11, 2008 12:32 am

Just a quickie, when i sign in i always tick the box that says "automaticly log me in each visit" (well its something like that anyway :D ) but it never does.

I hope that makes sense - i know its not important but i was wondering if it had been disabled or something.

I always leave it to automatically sign in on my home computer, and it does. But I don't have that setting set on my works computer, so if I am on them I don't. Do you use the same computer each time as it is computer specific?

Also, if you logout then the setting disappears. You just have to close down leaving yourself logged in. You don't stay logged in (the list of people logged in at the bottom is active users in the last 5 minnutes) but are automatically logged in next time you come to the boards.

Hope this waffle helps

It might be your internet settings. On the top bar go to "tools" then "internet options" then select the tab along the top for "content". Click the button for "autocomplete" and check all the boxes are ticked.

Hopefully this should do it - otherwise I am at a loss and hopefully someone else can help you.

Hiya,

What browser are you using (Internet Explorer, Firefox)??

If you are using IE then Eloise is right about the settings.

You should always Log out of any secure site you are using including this forum.

'timing out' time

Postby gila » Tue Aug 19, 2008 1:41 pm

if the 'timing out' time is set by forum team (rather than 'server' or whatever)- is there any chance of lengthening it???
I'm rather slow with writing posts, so often when I answer to an post at the beginning of "new posts since last visit" page, by the time I'm done, I'm timed out, have to log back in and have lost all the "new posts"list
so then have to traipse through whole forum index and check each section... highly annoying!

or is there something I can do? using different browser???? I use safari but also have firefox...
I could of course first read all, then get back to any posts I might like to answer... but that is also annoying and with my scatty brain... I'd forget...

I believe the timing out is set by the forum admin and yes it is an issue for me too!

Have you found the "active topics" buttton? On the board index, at the top left, just above the topic listings. If you click on that you will get a list of al the topics that have been posted in recently.

Hi All,

The "time out" time must have reinstated itself during the upgrade  I have now disabled it so you shouldn't have any problems now.

Hi All,

Disabling the time out appears to have caused the "gremlins" so I've reinstated it but it's set to 166 minutes so you shouldn't really have any problems. In saying that, it was already set to 120 mins so you shouldn't really have had problems before :S

It's still causing problems. For any post, I have to write the post (copy the text just in case!), try to submit, fail, then go back to the original post, click reply, paste the copied text in, Submit, and then it works! It acts more like it's 120 SECONDS not minutes!

Hi Fiona,

Has this happened within the last 5-10 minutes?

I 'timed out' today, some 10-15 mins ago... seemed to happen even quicker than 'normal"-some 15/20mins -def not 166 mins!!! and even the 120...dont think it ever took me that long... :D
I'm guessin here...but 'normally' it took some 45 mins to time me out...

thanks for the "active posts" tip kattykins! sure makes it easier when you timed out!

Still logging you out :?: um, dunno...I'll see what I can figure out.

With the new forum software it doesn't automatically mark things as read unless you have actually read them like the old software did ;) Which works great for me since I'm so behind on the forum right now

You are welcome - I have run enough games forums in my time.

@ Retro it may be worth contacting the phpBB forum and see if they can work out why you are having the problem. It sounds like something is in conflict with something else. If you have added a new mod or upgrade recently that would explain it.
