Physio said I have hypermobility - woo hoo

Postby MandyG » Sun Mar 16, 2008 11:35 pm

I cant believe it. Finally getting seen by a physio for my really back back (constantly sore since I had my last baby 16 weeks ago - I cant tell you how bad it is when I wake)

anyhoo - told her that my rebecca has hypermobility and she checked me out and said I was too woo hoo. felt good finally getting somewhere - she was really bewildered at why the doctors before had refused to do xrays on me etc

not sure which way to go now though seeing as my GP isn't interested.

I was planning on trying to get money together so I could get rebecca seen at a hypermobility clinic in london - hopefully - but not sure about me

my hips still feel like they are slowly coming out of the joint when I lie down - it's a really wierd feeling

also - not sure if this is related or not - but had a lot of problems breastfeeding this time with pain etc and just been told I have reynauds disease. - everything at once

also - nice of my mother to now inform me that when I was a toddler I was always getting greenstick fractures. looks like becca is following the same path - she is at A&E just now as she cant walk on her foot

Mandy G,

Glad you got a diagnosis at last, maybe your physio will help with letters about her findings. My physio and OT got me more help than anyone else so far.

Hope you get somewhere with it.

does anyone know how I go about getting a formal diagnosis?

I had physio again for my back this morring and she said she had no idea. She said a rheuy would only refer me to physio

basically telling me that getting a formal diagnosis will not solve anything as I have to just live with it

no further forward except she did say my back was very hypermobile hence the extreme pain

so confused lol

You might download diagnostic criteria--the Brighton set--print it and take it to your GP. GP may not be familiar and tha would allow him/her to diagnose not only you, but the next "loose woman" (or man) who comes in. ;-)
I am a physician specializing in occupational and environmental medicine. I am not an authority on HMS or EDS, but find I have several patients with the condition and am trying to learn more.

Hi Mandy glad you finally got the diagnosis, Raynauds can go with hms alot of us have the same and I have been diagnosed as having it by my rheumy. Sorry to hear you mum has only just told you about the greenstick fractures from when you were young. I really hope Becca's foot gets sorted. You have a right to be reffered to someone who knows about hms your gp can't just say they are not interested you have a right. I really hope something gets sorted for you.

Take care
