yeah i know what you mean, i haven't had problems from it but the fact that it can cause them sort of spoils the fact it works so well so i can't be as comfortable taking it, i am probably worrying over nothing though.

High Blood Pressure and Naproxen?
DOcs are making me have regular checks as I'm up massively and having to have an ECG. COuld the Naproxen be doing this?!!

I have just been prescribed Naproxen for HMS however it has not helped at all. I am still in agonising pain.I was hoping it would help me through my GCSE's which have just started oh well.I'm going back to the doctors next week to see if he can give me something else that will work.My parents did not want me taking perscibed drugs but when I started crying in the middle of a history essay because I was in so much pain I hardly could move, they agreed with my teacher that I would get something.I just want to be able to walk without being in pain.Hopefuly we can find something that works.
I send a hug to everyone in pain hope u all feel better soon

Hi shauny

Please understand that pain medecines very rarely make the pain go away completely. Most people with chronic pain will on average get a 30% reduction of paun from their meds. If you expect a med to work 100% then it is very hard to achieve this. If you are looking for any improvement, or enough of an improvement to allow you to concentrate, hold a pen, whatever will get you through your exams, then this is much more likely.
I know it is difficult to lower your expectations, but it does help to be realistic.
I do hope you manage to sort something out before your exams.

Rosie

PS - have you tried non-med treatments? sometimes these can help as well.
Diagnosed HEDS December 1st 2005. DD1 (20) HEDS and scoliosis (now corrected by surgery), diagnosed June 2006. DD2 (18) mild HMS. Son (11) some hypermobile joints, poor muscle strength and seems to be developing scoliosis as well, woopee!

Have a look in the Alternative Therapies section, there's a lot of info in there (as always you should discuss any new medication, conventional or alternative, with your GP). Are you on anything other than Naproxen? As different painkillers work in different ways you can get a combined effect by taking several in combination, for example paracetemol+ibuprofen+codeine, or whichever work for you - I find some of the basic painkillers don't touch it at all.

Longer-term, maybe you'd benefit from CBT or going to one of the pain management clinics?

It says in the leaflet in the Naproxen box that if you have high blood pressure you should talk to your gp before starting the medication. I assume this mean that it can cause blood pressure problems.

Naproxen can cause irritation to the stomcah linining and severe indigestion which is why people with peptic (stomach ulcers) are also monitored more closely on the med. Some people are perscribed a stomach 'protection' type medicaiton like omeprazole when perscribed naproxen. Iv been perscribed omeprazole because of the gastrointestinal complications I have because of the eds/hms. If you are taking naproxen without a stomach med and have cramps, sickness or indegestion you should talk to your gp/pharmacist asap and stop taking the naproxen until you speak to them. If you have been perscribed a stomack medicaiton as well and expereince any stomach problems again you should stop taking the naproxen and speak to your gp.

Always take naproxen with or after food!

Iv just been started on naproxen for 1month instead of my tramadol and amytryptaline (you can only be reffered to pain clinic in hartlepool if your gp has tried a long list of pain meds first including stonger NSAIDS like naproxen.)

I found Naproxen was only useful after a chiropractor popped all my joints about and set off massive inflammation and swelling, it helped me to get past that incident but doesn't help at all with my "normal" pain and problems. I've been prescribed lots of different anti-inflammatories and don't find they work for me.
Officially diagnosed with HMS and Fibro 2010 after 6 years of problems.

I've been told I need to come off naproxen as it has been giving me stomach problems and been making my asthma worse. Got an appointment with a dr to discuss other pain management options :shifty:

Just wanted to share I was prescribed Naproxen twice a day I have noticed a big difference in the pain I have in individual problem joints. That together with a new office chair. Yesterday I forgot to take my morning tablet by 10am I was struggling to stand up and walk for the first few steps then I realised I hadnt taken the tablet. I was suprised how much good they must be doing?
Not complaining it will make me take them regularly lol
Thanks for listening
