 cant find your exercise program... computer says no! (or better said 404 not found...)
but hopin it will be good and help!
re the fentanyl- there's some other threads re that, there might be something in there... you'll find them by putting "fentanyl'" into the search box
it being a rather strong opioid I could imagine that the 'dopyness side effect' might make you do less-particularly if you are fairly new to them- body seems to take some time to get used to meds.

Apologies for lateness, topic now merged with existing Fentanyl post as suggested - sorry I missed this one! By all means poke me - I do sometimes miss posts!

Mod has fixed link :) I know there are other types of assisted exercise in the UK but I could not find any info.

As I have been on the patches for some time I searched for 'long term fentanyl use' and it bought up nothing when I put it in the search box. I should of just searched for 'fentanyl' in instead! Doh! I guess I did not make that clear in my first post.

Thanks

My sister tried the assisted exercise shown in the link after a period of inactivity unrelated to EDS but she found them a good way to getting back to being able to do more. With regard to fentanyl patches I tried them and they helped pain wise greatly and used them for a good while then out of the blue they started causing terrible headaches so had to stop them. I did find that because heat and them are not good together, I had to be really careful and have tepid baths otherwise I would have to sleep for ages! I always think if a med doesn't suit you or you feel its having adverse effects that are outweighing the pro's its worth thinking of a change. Really hope things improve soon.

Thank you for your comments nonya. :bday:

I am thinking that I am suffering side effects from the fentanyl too. I do believe that they are helping with the pain the best so far- its very frustrating.

How may I ask did you come off the patches?

I have just started on Fentanyl today, I put on my first patch just over an hour ago. Far too early to really feel much of anything, I know, although I am sensing that I'm getting a slight 'time delay'. I am not really sure how to describe it, it's like I'll turn my head but it takes another half second for 'me' to catch up :S I've already had nausea all morning even before I put the patch on, so I can't judge that yet.

I've just started on the fentanyl patches. Scared myself silly googling them and it took hours of indecision before I stuck one on. I've started on the smallest dose but gp doesn't think this will be strong enough - but this will be another long decision as I will still want to feel which muscles/tendons are screaming at me so i know when to rest them and not make them worse but also want pain relief :duh:
Couldn't believe how small the patches are though.

I have been moved from butrans to fentanyl because I was having problems ie the old bod did not really take to them at all, at the moment the box is still unopenend partly because I have a feeling it will induce the same problams as the butrans patch but also because hubby has be working away the last three weeks on and off for four days at a time and I am worried that if something goes wrong and he is not here then the kids will have to deal with it. I am hoping to give them a go next week while he is home however if the same reaction occurs then it will look like morphine and I do not get on which will be a real pain  as when I was on the butrans the pain subsided but I was just so unwell. My g.p has given me a low dose to start,he says he normally prescribes a higher dose but to see how the bod gets on with the lower dose re side affects and pain levels.
silvertoes I would be interested to hear how you get on with the fentanyl.
best wishes

Hi star gazer,
I've had no real reaction to the patch either for pain relief or side effects although it has made me sleep longer but I still get disturbed sleep. I will phone my gp and ask to go on the higher dosage next week. I would love for this to be the way forward as otherwise I take so many other painkillers that have me rattling as well as feeling dizzy on them all.
Good luck with your experience and I hope it works well for you :bye:

Hi stargazer,

Innate to say I followed exactly the same route as you - Butrans did me no favours - fentanyl was a complete revalation!

Smaller patch, less obvious, less side effects and I have to say whilst it doesn't leave me pain free it is an excellent compromise. My GP couldn't understand why one of his colleagues had prescribed Butrans due to the level of side effects it generates? My only advice is to stick the patch onto skin that isn't prone to spots as they tend to breed under the patch

I would say give it a go. I take the lowest dose and function quite well, go to work, drive etc. My new pain consultant reckons I can go up a dose but he doesn't want to meddle with all my drugs at once , so currently awaiting gabapentin. A new combo for me !

Good luck!
