Anyone any experience with buscopan? My son has just started it today for severe ibs. Been told to give for a few days and then drop to when needed. Does this sound sensible?

I've used the over-the-counter stuff before and it is okay. This is no doubt not as strong as the stuff you can get via prescription. Saying it is okay makes it sound rubbish, but it worked better than anything else and when used in combination with heatpacks against the abdomen, reduced the pain by about 4-5/10. I found it worked well on the 'grumbly internal meat hooks' cramps better than the being 'stabbed with swords' cramps. (sorry for the icky visuals there  )

I only use it when symptomatic, as it is an anti-spasmodic.

Iv used buscapan (over the counter not perscibed) for years for my stomach cramps. I dont use it now becuse the bowel pain i get isnt cramps or spasm and buscapan only really works for cramp and spasm type bowel pain but when i did use it it was really effective.

Its also very good for period pain.

I was given prescription buscopan to help relieve the pain I got during a gallstone attack. I found it to be the only thing to offer any form of relief, and it reduced the pain from a 15/10 to about a 6/10 for an hour or two, which gaqve me a bit of respite during particularly bad attacks. The pain did come back, but it was good whilst it lasted.

I hope that helps,
