Oh blady! Just read you did a felting class. One of my fave raves!! I used to know someone who kept sheep and brought a huge bin bag of fleece round one day. It took forever to do but is still in the form of a wall hanging in the bedroom. I used to buy Rowan wool. Don't know if it still exists? It was real spun wool in gorgeous colours. I would card it into fluff and then layer it into the existing felt. Any pure wool will do the trick as it still needs shrinking. Happy days they were in my cat litter tray! You are making me think about doing it again. :D SAMMY

Thanks guys, the felting was great fun, though I'm paying for it now in my arms and hands! We used merino roving, lovely stuff. I've felted knitted projects before, but not done the whole thing from scratch like that.

I might be doing another one in a few weeks, seamless felting - I suspect I'll make a hat. I wouldn't mind having a go at needle felting, that looks like a skill I could use in a few of the projects I have coming up.

i've never tried felting.... might look into doing some of it! i'm still looking for a hobby that suits me, i've have a house full of half done mini projects - cards, cross-stitch, painting..... i seem to have more success with knitting and i've been gradually knitting a patchwork blanket for a while and i've recently taken it up again but at the speed i knit it's going to take me forever!  but it's gonna look great.... eventually!

i think maybe i should have started with something much smaller! :shifty:

Hi fi. Good luck with your blanket. I still have one that isn't finished! It will happen. I guess some projects are longer term than others. I'm one of those who likes a lot of projects going on at the same time so I can switch around when I lose inspiration or get a block. Some things I look at everyday with a mental block and other things just happen and done in a day! I will never work it out. Every project starts off with the same enthusiasm but comes to an end in it's own time. Some projects don't even make it and instead of looking at it??????????? I just pull it apart and start again. I liken it to my emotions and moods. SAMMY

Crochet

Postby Jess » Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:35 am

After buying the crochet mags with the free yarn and the step by step demo DVD.

I've got a scrapstore membership for guides and have been picking up large scraps of lycra/swim suit material thinking that it would be great to make liners for my splints and as pressies for other bendys. but never got round to it.
So after addition 2, it had how to make a rug out of streachy material. So cut the lyrca/swim suit matterial the way they suggested and started. Started it at the begining of training week and within 2 weeks it's almost a metre square. I'm thinking that i will make it into a long rug so i can sleep on it when I go camping as it is sooo thick and padded, and soft!!

Helped me distract my pain from my knees as i could relax on my bed and have a story or film on, the only problem is after an hour doing rows it was getting to my elbows being held fixed in a possition. And having to heave a heavy roll of a mat over and around for doing the next row.
I feel like a bowl of Rice Cripsies!! I'm snap, crackling, popping everywhere!

I just finished my first knitted sock!I'm all proud as it sounded really difficult to do and despite getting stuck a few times I just finished it off - I learnt so much! I need to get my husband to try it on as it's meant for my Dad (although I originally meant it for me, not sure what my Dad will think of blue, brown and beige stripey socks!!). It fits me perfectly which is why I'm worried that it might not fit my Dad. Oh well, if it doesn't then I get them! Mind you, I still have to knit the second sock, LOL.

Fiona-Jane, a blanket was exactly how I started last year. Still haven't finished it, but I've finished lots of things in the meantime and I still pick it up every so often and knit a few more rows (there's 200 stitiches per row so it's not that fast to knit!). I think it's the perfect project as it lasts for a long time but you can do it in small pieces. Having said that, I started crocheting one that consists of two different sizes of octagons in really bright and contrasting colours and then realised that I had to crochet 81 big octagons and 100 small ones and it was taking me a day to finish each octagon - I've put it away and will hopefully get back to it someday but I'm still not up to it yet! One advantage was that it was great to carry around as I'd just grab enough wool to do one of the colours in a bunch of octagons - it wasn't like my one piece blanket that can only get worked on at home in the winter (I've finished over half of it and it lies on my legs and warms me up!
