Going well. Can now remember all the major chords. Just need to practice them over and over to be able to move from one to another quickly insteads of; think, fret fret fret, play, reposition to avoid that dull but sharp poing!! when you're accidently touching another string or not pressing a string down firm enough.
Startng to get the F chord positioning, now to try and tackle the art of barring. Guess it's using that muscle memory you mentioned. It takes about 350 tries for your brain to get the hang of something. It will all come together at some point.

The ashbory bass... wei-rd. I've never seen that before.

like the lightness- but I always found balance really important for me- 'neck heavy' always made for quicker/easier cramping fingers, achy wrists/elbows-
and I always preferred "flatter" instead of 'well rounded' neck...
but if you ever are down south with your bass- I'd love to have a go :D

like your exercises!
I was never a "proper' player- started in the diletante punk days- so never did any of that-
and although I can read music a bit and can transfer this to a keyboard- I never learnt this- lazy! couldnt be bothered- on guitar/bass- I always just played by ear and with time just let muscle memory find the right notes
:D

and yep, bass centre is a good place- shame they dont generally stock the ashbory- or do they sometimes?

I'm very excited, my husband just bought me an electric guitar as a late Christmas/early birthday present. I started learning about 10 years ago but then drifted away from it (can't even remember why now) but I'm very much looking forward to starting again. Here's looking forward to painful fingertips for the next while, lol. :D

Anyone still playing?

I haven't been able to play in a while, I subluxed my wrist pretty badly in my sleep a while ago and haven't been able to use it properly in a while. But it's getting there now, so hopefully I'll be able to start back again soon.

with barring i just try to use a capo and faff about until i find chords that dont hurt. obviously this takes way longer than just getting a tab off the internet, meh its what we have to do

Hello fellow guitar players...

I've been playing for a few years (steel string acoustic) although progress has been slow, I realise now due to my HMS and I also suspect poor proprioception.

I've found it particularly difficult to completely get the hang of rhythm strumming; I hold the pick in the right way, but it keeps on slipping down. Could this be to do with general poor stability in my hands and fingers?

Has anyone found an alternative way of holding the pick that gives more stability?

Thanks Jayneth, good idea, I'll give a thumb pick a try! On a more positive note my guitar teacher thinks my bendy fingers mean I can do some of the more difficult chord positions, even it hurts a bit to do so...
