Rooms are all about the same. It you need loo seat raiser then add it to the list. If you are going to be buying fund raising stuff bring lots of pound coins then paper notes as it helps us who are dealing with the cash. A bag so you can put your info pack in. Spare note pad and good few pens I was for ever losing mine last time.

Happy to answer and other questions as I know the run up to the residental can be crazy for Barkin'
I feel like a bowl of Rice Cripsies!! I'm snap, crackling, popping everywhere!

Thank you Jess.

No menus have gone out I will sort in due course. Yes you should try to bring anything that you need as the rooms are not all equipped with disability aids.

Howdy everyone, hope you are all doing ok?

I've already said I will be bringing my vast assortment of nail polishes and stuff but I have had a request for jewellery, could I bring it to the residential to save on P&P so that sounds sensible to me. if anyone makes an order from www.facebook.com/PurlBeads I am happy to bring your purchases to the residential :) just thought I'd let you all know since I have a few dedicated bendie customers :)

also I CANNOT WAIT for September I am so excited, I should be fresh off a holiday to Barcelona with my lovely other half so I will be tanned and sun kissed and knackered! so at least I will look nice while falling asleep in the lectures... ladies (and gents) I can't wait for out pillow party in the lecture theatre, never has learning been so comfortable

EDS UK is a completely different, unrelated charity.

Not sure if I have missed something, or of it's in the info being sent out now - but are there any details of the speakers etc yet? Would be nice to know who is talking and on what subjects. x

I have pm barkingmad but what happens if the food is not suitable or there is a query regarding ingredients? There does not appear to be child friendly food and also my son is lactose intolerant and a number of items include cheese/dairy. I am also allergic to garlic so need to know what contains it. If there is nothing suitable is there an alternative or can we bring stuff to heat up?

I was trying to figure out the same thing as I'm lactose intolerant and don't really want to spend the whole time not being able to eat and being in pain like I did the last residential. Been trying to decide what option to go for because I'm not sure which ones contain dairy apart from the obvious like the cheese board

Even sandwiches may have butter or margarine containing milk. My son ate little last time,he is quite poorly without food. He also is a very fussy feeder. I asked last time about chips and was told they do not have a frier! He eats little fruit(same as me),he cannot eat brown bread either. I am sure there may be others who cannot eat some fruits. It is a worry.

:S Hi Ya,

The menus have been devised to offer vegetarian, gluten and diary free options. Sorry we probably should have got Hothorpe to be more specific but I was having a fog day when I ok'd them to go out.

Each meal has three options. If you ask me which is lactose etc I can tell you

Re the kids diets...no we did not specifically create a kids menu. Its the same as adults (with three choices). I am not sure what you mean by kids menu other than that...do you mean chips etc? Hothorpe dont do chips, etc....its not really a 'chips' sort of place for food.

Re the garlic...I suspect it is in chilli.

The chef at Hothorpe has a 5 yr old daughter who is lactose, gluten free etc...so I thought we had struck gold this time. :S The reason we did menus in advance was because last time normal eaters ate the diet food which left people like Sheppey without anything to eat!

The residential before that complaints were made over the fact that the food was repetetive and greasy...I know we are never going to please everyone with the food but we have done the best we could in advance trying to make sure people had real options...apart from the complaints that all the diet food had been eaten last time the general view was that the food was lovely.

With a large event such as the HMSA Residential, it is really hard to please everyone with every single diet requirement, and the HMSA have done really well to ensure gluten/dairy/lactose free options in each meal.

When I go away I bring a few snacks to help with my own diet issues -e.g. I even brought my own flapjack and dried apricots to the USA last year because these were helping with my constipation.

I would therefore suggest people bring a few 'snacks' if they think this might help them - or for in between meals. Just a thought! :bye:
