thanks for the reply sue :) i have so much going on in my useless body, the dla forms may not be long enough lol. i'm 32 years old and i feel 90! i think when decent body parts were given out, i was definitely at the back of the queue and got what no-one else wanted  i may have a chat to my gp and see what she thinks, and ask what her report would/might say, should she be requested to write one, and if she thinks it might be worth it, then i might try to pluck up the courage, energy and strength to apply again. :bye:

I just got awarded higher rate mobiliy and lower rate care, yipee! I was a bit suprised at the care component, I supose I don't always think about just how dependent on OH I am, I'd be really stuck without him. Anyway, just thought I'd mention how helpful the CAB were, I would never have managed it without their help, I'd encourage anyone who's appyling to take their application form to the CAB for help filling it in in the first place rather than waiting until you get to the appeal stage, I wish I'd done that, they just know the right wording that the decision makers are looking for.

ah so pleased for you tiz...

i've had so much help from a new doctor over the last couple of months (new painkillers/anti-inflammatories and physio and advice), i am stunned, after being what i would class as 'ignored' for years! and so i have renewed hope and confidence now, in getting my pain controlled, and also in applying for dla again, adding on hms as well as the tumours in my knee. and i think i will definitely take your advice and ask the cab for advice and help in filling the forms in.

Hiya all,

I was diagnosed with EDS in July and applied for DLA in October. I received my award letter today and have been awarded low rate mobility and middle rate care. I was expecting the mobility to be high rate to be honest as I get dizziness, blackouts, breathlessness and pain when walking, but am not sure whether to appeal. Can they decide to retract DLA altogether if I appeal? or is it just it'll be increased or it won't. Do they still pay the DLA whilst the appeal is ongoing? Thanks guys

Good news and slightly annoying at the same time.

I was getting lower rate care but have gotten much worse, so applied to have my award looked at again. It was initially refused, but I have now been awarded Higher Rate Mobility and Higher Rate Care  I was very shocked to get higher rate care.

I've only been awarded it for 1 year though, it seems that I might magically recover from my genetic connective tissue disorder :eh:

So now I have 4 days less than one year left of my award so no doubt cannot apply for a mobility car :cussing:

Oh well - DLA - higher rate -WOOT

Hi what a lovely thread full of great things, I origionaly applied for DLA in Oct 2010 at the same time ESA contributions based (I do like a challenge :wink2: ) I had an atos medical for the ESA and was put in to the WRAG (work related assessment group) however refused DLA on both elements. It was after an assessment of needs by the OT that on his suggestion I reapplied, This I did in january but this time with the help of the Benefits and work site using their info for help when filling out forms, origional mistake with first claim was I did it without help. The complication was that I was also applying for my sons DLA at the same time :!: I hate it when those brown envelopes arrive, it takes me ages to open them have to make a cuppa and calm down first  Anyway bron envelope arrived for me in Feb befor my March 3rd deadline awarding high rate mobility Yay no care but I was expecting that because even tho I have care needs of my own I am also my sons full time carer.
Brown envelope arrived for son this morning he has been awarded low mobility and low rate care Yay. was not expecting mobility for him but was expecting middle care as his needs continue through the night I didn't get to sleep until 4:30 this morning dilema is do I ask them to review the care component and risk losing all. Had a chat with son who has logically said don't worry about it mum because low rate is better than no rate. so yes we are celebrating being able to buy bed raisers and support pillows to help with sleep oh yes and the protein supplements that he needs. Went to the post office and changed my car tax sent the other one back to dvla so will get 11 month refund on that as I had only just renewed it  I think what help my award for hr mobility was the fact that I had already had a sucessful ATOS medical had applied for a blue badge on a discretional application and sent in OT assessment of needs report along with all the usual suspects. It's a weird feeling facing up to the fact that we have these health problems but at the same time happy that some of the burden has gone away like paying for taxis and pre payment prescriptions. Does anyone know, do I need to notify childrens tax credit people?
Let the good news keep on coming
love to you all

Fabulous news this morning, woke up to find money in my bank I wasn't expecting. Turns out Charlie has been awarded middle rate care from Feb. No mobility element which seems odd, but as we don't have our letter yet we don't know why.
We may ask them to reconsider mobility once we know why they turned us down, but for now I'm happy we have a decision and haven't had to go to tribunal. Mel x :bye: :bye: :D :D

hiya stargazer i've just done my tax credid review over the phone and they said it very well could make a difference to your award if you recieve DLA. If I was you i'd let them know it can't hurt and you might be surprised Good luck

Hi all

If you are working (more than 16 hours a week I think) then the care rate of DLA is used as qualification for the disabled element of working tax credit. I receive the high rate care componentof DLA and when I was still working I had the severely disabled allowance for working tax credit in addition to the normal alllowances. If you are not working it doesn't make any difference.
Also, if you receive attendance allowance it can make a difference I think.

I just got the decision on my re-consideration and have been awarded lower care rate!
I'm really happy, as I was half-expecting to get turned down again. I knew I'd probably only get lower care, since the preparing a meal part is what I struggle with most. It will be backdated 7 months so I should have lots of money coming in soon. Can't wait to go on a disability aids shopping spree, to buy all the things I couldn't afford until now! :D
