Need some advice/reassurance on NI and ID issues in applying

Postby Neogetz » Wed Jun 20, 2012 10:12 pm

Hi,
I'm applying for ESA because at the moment I can't work, can't even leave the house everyday let alone go out looking for jobs. Tried while still in stoke and they couldn't get it done for the life of them. Moved back in with my parents this week so trying again.

When I tried to apply over the phone my NI number doesn't come up on their system. I know it's correct, and they think it's been locked under data protection from when I changed my name. Has anyone had any experience with such a problem and the effect it might have on my application?

Also, I haven't had a new passport since I changed my name, so while the old one is still in date, it's incorrect. My Drivers license is provisional, and that is not accepted over 21. Do you think they will accept my old passport with my deed poll?
They're really unhelpful on the phone, just telling me to get on with the forms rather than answering my concerns.

I would advise making an appointment or going to your local jobcentre to sort it out, so that someone can photocopy your documents if required. You may need still need to use the phones there, but at least they'll be free  .

They should accept the old passport with the deed poll. I changed my name and gender and there is a lock on my account because of the previous "sensitive information" and it makes everything so much harder to do. Anyone with a lock on their account gets dealt with by a special office. The people on the regular phoneline have to be higher up and have to get permission to access the files. That's probably why they weren't able to access the information. Not sure why the national insurance number wasn't recognised because they can still access that and some basic details but not much else.
