you should be able to get extra time, i had 25% for all my exams and taking rest breaks can really help. if you get rsi again you should be able to get a scribe, if you are used to dictating your work than it is good but it can take a while to get used to.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help and advice. I guess I just have to get over it and take the help I can get!

I think I'll definitely ask for the rest breaks for my longer essay subjects. Is it best just to see a physio or should I go through the GP route?

Hiya,

You should do a search on here for handwriting, it's come up before and there are things that you could try to help reduce the pain etc.

Speak to your head of year/college - grants are available for equipment/support. This post brought to you by voice recognition software.

Hello,

I've already past my exams this year and I did them on a laptop because writing is really painful!
Also you can do it by word of mouth!

In this way is it possible to do my exams and I also use a laptop in lessons
Diagnosed when i was 12(HMS).
I've got almost sure EDS (not official diagnosed) but my physio and physiatrist are truly sure!
More I've Chronic Pain Syndrome, PDD-NOS, Migraine.

I feel your pain.
I get the 25% extra time - mainly due to the fatigue factor (I actually fell asleep in my numeracy exam - fail).

However I was a bit hacked off at my last exam. A 1/2 timed essay was a part of it. First 5 lines was great, neat writing, etc. The rest was that of a 5 year old and I wrote about 2 sides of A4.

What gets me is the lack of communication in the college. I told the assessment for needs months ago about EDS and how it can effect my hands with writing, they suggest maybe a scribe or laptop. I told the tutor who would be overseeing the exam 2 weeks before the exam. NOTHING! I had to write it! Cramps in the hand, 11 finger dislocations which I clicked back into place, shooting pains up the arm to the shoulder, more cramps on top of it. I was practically in tears toward the end of that. I could barely use my arm for the next 2 days.
My boyfriend gets to use a laptop because of dyslexia. The difference between widely known condition and barely known condition. Least one of us got the support needed.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome type 3, diagnosed Febuary 2009. EDS is the advisor of my life, NOT the ruler!
