Lamenectomy

Postby naomiatkinson81 » Tue Sep 18, 2007 6:02 pm

I have 3 bulging discs in my back and one decided to push out even more and took over 80% of my spinal canal, but because of the hypermobility it didn't effect me the way it should, so I was rushed in for emergency surgery to have the disc reduced. Funny thing is my mum had to have the same op so we ended up at the same hospital with the same doc on the same day one after the other with rooms next door, bad thing was we usually look after each other so had to rely on the rest of the family who don't really know what we're going through.

Anyway its a few months down the line and hasn't doen anything to eliviate the pain, but at least i can feel my feet a bit more.

Hi Naomi,

This sounds extremely painful and I can understand to a degree what you're going thru, my ex has spinal stenosis so his spinal column is being impinged by overgrowths of bone and the disc is also deteriorating. He has had surgery but his surgeon isn't willing to operate again so he just has to live with it.

Do you have a question?

Hi,
You say that your HMS caused the 3 bulging discs to behave in a different way - what do you mean?

I have had lots of probs with my own back and delayed diagnosis due to my red herring symptoms. By this I mean my ability to kiss my knees with 2 ruptured discs and slipped vertebrae - no site pain at the time eof extension and so this gave the docs a false opinion of my problems.

Anyway, I am curious to hear if your probs were similar and hence delayed your op?

I hope you are both on the mend now. x
