Many of us have hips that clunk, crack and pop out of place. You are not alone at all. I have damage to my hips but I am afraid that surgery will make it worse. I will wait as long as I possibly can before considering surgery.

Good luck to you on your recovery from surgery. I hope they can salvage function and reduce the pain.

I'm fairly certain that I've had an acetabular tear to the cartilage of my left hip before. My hips sublux (partially dislocate) all the time and dislocate fully quite a lot as well. I have to step up to get into the bath and slipped with my leading foot one time. I managed to stop myself falling but sort of jammed my hip joint up into the socket and twisted it. I ended up at A&E a few days later because it was so painful, but they couldn't see anything on X-ray, they said it was probably bursitis. But from the location of the pain and sensation, it corresponds better with an acetabular tear.

Like Paw said, lots and lots of us have hip problems.

I have my ultrasound on my hip today so the surgean can work out if my problems is with the actual joint or the ligaments behind the hip.
I'm not looking forward to it becuase he said he will have to keep making my hip clunk to work out where it is coming from (which is the whole point of the ultrasound) and this leaves me in so much pain afterwards just form doing it a couple of times.

Anyway the result should tell him if I need the z-plasty op (for ligament cuase) or the osteomy (pinning the socket).
The hip is really painful now and it affects most of my pelvis, groin and triggers my SI joints really badly so I'm leaning more towards surgery than not.

So I am prepared when he tells me which op would be needed which of the 2 is more difficult in EDS (as in which is more painful in recovery, has more risks and longer recovery times etc).

I'm hoping that I can put the hip surgery off until I have had my bowel surgery.

Thanks cx

I'm newly diagnosed with HMS but not with Hip Problems, and if anyone needs any advice i can help. I have had currently a z-plasty with a local orthopaedic surgeon (DO NOT recommend) and once under a Hip Specialist that does Young hips I'm 35yrs old. I've had a Triple Pelvic Ost where they break the pelvis in 3 places and realign it, screw and plated it together, and a Femur Valgus Ost where i was given a 2 inch gap whereas the bone had to grow and give me the extra 2 inch length as legs were different lengths. So i have a 6 inch scar on the right side from the z-plasty, and a 7 inch scar at pany line for pelvic ost and a 12 inch scar for the femur ost.

Going in for a Femur Rotation and general clean up after the horrid mess of the z-plasty and bursa removal in right hip, hopefully at Christmas. This is where the Femur is rotated to match the direction of the tibia.

A really good site for Hip problems is http://injuryupdate.com.au or this link will get you straight to the Hip and Groin injury part of the forum http://www.injuryupdate.com.au/forum/fo ... p-injuries

Happy Hippie Healing xx
