Collagen tablets

Postby Trina » Wed Jul 29, 2009 1:36 pm

I'm not sure if I have put this post in the correct section, so mods please move it if it needs to be! Thanks.

Holland & Barrett are selling collagen tablets... Is this something we could take as we have a collagen deficiency?? Or is it a different type of collagen in our bodies. I'm confused!! I was just wondering if these tablets would help or if they would be a waste of time.

Hi Trina

I am sure there is a thread about this but I can't find it at the moment. Basically the template that our bodies have that is used to make collagen is faulty, so any collagen we manufacture will be faulty, rather than our bodies not being able to make enough collagen. I am not convinced that Collagen supplied in tablet form can even be assimilated by the body. I do think that if it was helpful, we would all be on it  As far as I know, the collagen in out body tissues is manufactured by our bodies. There are also a number of different types of collagen that are used as building blocks for various parts of the body (skin, tendons, ligaments etc.). I will move this to the other thread when I find it,

Hi trina

Typing in a limited way, so will keep this short.
Proteins are broken down in the digestive system into their components, amino acids. So taking a collagen supplement will provide the required amino acids for our bodies to make collagen.
But, in HMSers the amino acids are available but the body can't put them together on exactly the right order, so the collagen doesn't end up with quite the right properties.

So, unfortunately, no amount of extra amino acids will help that. :(

I don't know about Collagen Tablets, But I do know a product that removes stretch marks and scars, Problem is I don't know how we are going to get hold of it,

QVC did a collagen Gel, by Simply Beautifull Cosmetics, which completely removed the map of the Nepalese Mountains on my belly, and got rid of the ones on my legs. Also took about 10yrs off me, when I used it on my face, Paying attention Ladies? and It last's for ever

Oldham College also use this as part of their facial treatments, and I know it can be bought from Beautician wholesalers.

Anyone know any self employed Beauticians?

Hopefully,

I'll keep an eye on it and see if it goes TSv on QVC, coz at the moment I could do with a bath in the stuFF

Hi the other day in the paper taily mail health section) ere was an interesting study on high does collagen hydroltsate supplements taken in people with arthritis. there's also a quote from a professional sport's person on the GB team after a ripped tendon injury who reported being cured after 12 weeks. Obviously given the above info about the way in which HMS uses amino acids maybe this is of no use, but it may be so here's the name of the capsules this professor guy recommends: proto-col collagen capsules www.purecollagen.com (hope i'm allowed to post this - not a personal recommendation, it's just something I read about the other day)

Why if there are good products out there are we not able to get them on the NHS? It still seems to me that no one cares. Isn't it about time a politician has this illness? I thought about taking the collagen pills from Holland and Barrett. They say it is for skin, hair and nails. I wonder?? My skin, hair and nails are in awful condition. Is this part of the bendy illness? SAMMY

Collagen as a molecule is pretty big and complex so I would be HIGHLY surprised if it absorbed from your stomach to your bloodstream then into your connective tissues..still if I'm wrong and anyone has tried it and it does work then sign me up!

Hi all

Bethwoo - please have a read through the eaelier posts on this thread. There is absolutely no evidence that collagen supplements are of any benefit to us at all.

Food based collagen/broth

Postby bendyneck » Thu Jan 24, 2013 6:05 pm

Before I was diagnosed with HMS I used to go to a highly regarded nutritionist for all my gut problems, he prescribed a 'power drink' which included a lot of omega 3 and 6 oils, which did help dramatically but he was a bit flummoxed by all my complicated and various symptoms. Unfortunately I had to stop going to him for financial reasons. I recently emailed him to let him know I had found a diagnosis of EDS, he sent me a very nice reply and mentioned that he had had three patients in the last three months coming in with the same diagnosis. He and his colleague have been looking into things that may help, they linked me these articles. I know EDS is genetic and the idea of taking collagen orally has been dismissed in this thread but have a read of these articles and make your own decision. To me it stands to reason that if we are bad at making collagen we need to give our bodies the best quality ingredients possible.
